tone arm of the machine has been used, duringits movements across the record, to'actuate the stopping levers. In the present machine, while the movlng tone arm is employed to control certain .movements, its
function so far as stopping the movement of the record is concerned, is limited to prevent the brake beingapplicd until the movement of thetone arm ceases. by keeping sepa-rate in a positive way, except for a brushing contact at intervals, the brake operating parts while traversing the record, but when its movement ceases, then parts, that hitherto have been keptain motion, have their rotary movements converted into a rockingmovement, or rocking movements are inducechdirectly under the influ= ence of the machine motor'to tree the brake lever that is then applied to the turn table on which the record lies.
To this end a pivotal member .is intermittently moved into a turntable brake actuating :means, the means has time to operate, is withheld by the moving tone arm until the movement of the tone arm ceases, when thepivotal member is engaged by the actuating means and the machine motor operates parts to re-' tuate a wheel, called the pallet wheel, that at intervals in its rotary movements engages a lever, called the .pallet lever. The parts are so arranged that the rotary movement of the pallet wheel will be arrested by the pallet' lever only when the tone arm and stylus havecome to the end of the record. 7

In a stopping means in a talking machine having a tone arm mounting and a Z shaped pivoted lever actuated from said mounting, a bracket on the mounting and bracket, a jaw to the lever thatis wider than the diameter of the post, a stop on the machine base plate and means for holding the lever against the stop until the post enters the jaw.

In stopping means in talking machines, a pallet lever, a pallet wheel, a motor on a spindle that drives said pallet wheel, an upstanding pin on the wheel, a rocking lever on the end of the pallet lever, an inclining pallet and a tooth on the forward end of the rocking lever, a tension spring that re Z plate, an inclined edge thereto near its outer end and a lever bestriding the pallet lever spindle attached at one end to the tension spring which lever as itcontacts with the inclined plane on the curved extension frees the pallet lever from the spring as the Z shaped lever is moved by thepost.
