Patented Feb. 21, 1928.
UNITED STATES CARL a. KRANS, or ALTONA, ILLINOIS.
STEP JACK.
Application filed February 16, 1927. Serial No. 168,534.
This invention relates to attachment for sive to manufacture and is eflicient in 'operation and service.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims. I i y In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which: r V
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the application of my jacks to step ladders and a platform supported by the jacks.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary sectional view taken through one ladder and showing a jack applied to a step thereof with a fragmentary portion of the platform supported by the jack.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of one of Referring to the drawings in detail the letter A indicates a pair of step ladders and B the steps thereof. I
The device which forms the subject matter of the present invention includes a substantially U-shaped body having a base 1 and arms 2 formed therewith. The arms are each provided with a plurality of parallelly arranged upwardly inclined recesses 3 which as best shown in Figure 3 are arranged so that the recesses of one arm are disposed in registration with the recesses of the other arm.
The supporting means for the body is in the nature of a clamp and is formed by a pair of strips Lhaving one of their ends bent in U-formation as at 5 with a cross strip 6 integrally formed with these last mentioned ends as shown. The opposed ends of the straps 4 are rolled upon themselves to provide sleeves 7 which are secured adjacent the ends to a cross rod 8. The crossrod is provided with heads 9 formed on its ends and is adapted to be received in the recesses 3 in a manner whereby the arms 2 are disposed between the sleeves 7 and the heads 9, as shown in Figure 3.
The jacks are adapted to be associated in pairs as shown in Figure 1, with a platform which is indicated by the letter C disposed upon the base liof each of the jacks, while the strips 4 are arranged in clamped engagement with one of the steps of each of the ladders. It will be obvious that from this construction, that the body portion of the jacks can be adjusted vertically and receive the cross rod 8 in any of the registering recesses so that the platform C can be adjusted accordingly. The jacks can also be associated with any of the steps of the step ladders.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combinationand arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
lVhat I claim isz 1. A ladder jack of the character described comprising a body including a base, recessed arms rising from said base, means for clamping said body to a ladder and including par allel strips, ladder engaging means connecting said strips, sleeves formed on said strips.
and a headed rod secured in said sleeves and being adapted to be received in the recesses of the arms.
j 2. A ladder jack of the character described comprising a body including a base, arms rising from said base and being provided with upwardly inclined parallelly arranged recesses disposed in a manner whereby the recesses of one arm register with the recesses liltt ofthe other arm. a rod removably associated in any pairof the registering recesses, and means secured to said rod for clamping the body to a step of a ladder.
