This invention relates to improvements in tile making machines, and has for its object to provide mechanism for use in the manu facture of concrete tile or the like, wherein the tile bearing pallets will be passed beneath an oiling device before charging, and thereafter conveyed to the charging niechanism to receive proper load oit material.
Hitherto in such machines it has been customary to dip or otherwise coat pallets by hand, resulting in the use of considerable excess of oil, and requiring the service o an additional workman, in some instances vat least, also requiring the use of a more exa pensive character of oil.
My present invention dispenses with this manual oiling, and coats each pallet in its passage toward the charging hopper with an adequate coating of oil, and at the same time provides means to collect and return 'for re-use of such oil as is not directed toward the pallet. i
These and other objects will be more fully set forth and described in the Yl'ollowing specication and shown in the accompany ing drawings, in which* Fig. l is a side elevation of a portion of a machine for manufacturing concrete roofing tile, showing my oiling mechanism applied thereto.

Mounted upon and ext-ending upwardly from the table 10b is the charging hopper 17, to which concrete is applied through the spout 18 or the like located thereabove. Secured to the front of the hopper l? is the bracket, generally indicated by numeral 20, having the spaced journals kE20EL and 20D, in which is Journaled a shaft 2l in suitable bearings, as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 4L, for eX- ample. the shaft- 21 is the driving pulley 22 ar.- ranged for actuation by a belt (not shown) from a source of power. A shield 25 is provided having the rearwardly projecting flange 25a, which is attached to the upper surface of bearing portion 520L by thumb screws 26, or the like, permitting its ready attachment or detachment.
The shield Q5 is provided with a slot 251 at its rear side to permit passing of the same over the shaft 21. The sides oi this slot diverge outwardly `and downwardly, as clearly shown in Fig. 3. Mounted on the outer end oi' the shaft 2l in the shield 25 is the rotatable cup 28 having an aperture 2S@ `in one lace. This cup is provided with staggered nozzles 29 in its out-er periphery. `While I do not wish to be restricted to any particular number of these nozzles, l have 'found four to be satisfactory in use. These nozzles are preferably threaded into the cup 28 to permit ready replacement or substitution of other nozzles with dillerent sized apertures. yllie shield at its outer side 25d is provided with the aperture 25e in substantial alignment with the aperture 28a otl the cup 28, these apertures permitting the entrance oi an inclined supply pipe 30, which iii turn leads from the cylinder 81, having the sight window 31a. Leading vfrom the upper portion of cylinder 31 is pipey 3Q with valve SQ, this structure permitting a regulated flow ot oil to the cylinder 31, visible through the window 31a. The oil will ow from thence to the interior or' the cup Mounted between the bearings on 28 through pipe 30. Rotation of the cup 28 at high speed exerts a centrifugal action upon the oil contained therein, so that at the proper speed the oil will be forced out through the nozzles 29 and the sheet, somewhat in the nature of theV sparks -trom a pinvvheel. To accommodate the lag in this curtain or sheet of oil in the direction ot rotation oi the cup 28, the bottom 2.5i of the shield 25 is inclined upwardly from one side, and is further provided with the opening 25g above the conveyor, in which the sprayed or distributed oil passes to iinpinge.

At the divergent sides of the slot 251 are provided the iii-turned flanges 25h and 251, which serve as troughs to collect the oil impinging upon the inside Wall of the shield, the same being conveyed to the sump 35, in which the oil d 'ains out through pipe 36, or is conveyed back to the source of supply for reuse. The sump 35 is provided with a central boss 35 having a slot 35" therethrough, in which extends bolts 36 into Iengagement with the boss 250 at the edge of shield 25, the slot pern'iitting adjustment of the sump, the bolt serving to maintain the sump detachably se cured to the shield.
As the pallets pass beneath the shield 25, they are coated' with sutlicient oil, but with my device I am able to control the degree oi" this coating with a fair amount of certainty, thereby economizing in the amount of oil used and the centrifugal dispersion of the oil permits me to use oil oi heavier body, with consequent less cost than that required for hand dipping. Furthermore, since the pallets are oiled just previously to their passage through the charging hopper, there is no opportunity for the oil to become vaporized or drain oil' trom the pallets as may happen when they are dipped in one location and conveyed by hand to the machine.
Should it be necessary to remove the shield 25 this may be readily done by removing the thumb screws 26, after which the slot 251 will permit lifting oi' the shield `from position, suilicient play being provided to shield being open above said conveying means.
