FRANK L. BAILEY, OF NEW BRUNSWICK, NEW JEBSEY, ASSIGITOR TO JOHNSON & JOHN- SON, OF NEW BRUNSWICK, NEW JERSEY, A CORPORATION OF NEW JERSEY.
SANITARY BECEPTACLE FOR DENTAL USE.
Application filed June 30,
My invention relates to dental appliances and the object thereoi is to provide the dentist with a readily handled sanitary tray or receptacle for breaches, burrs, and various other articles of current use in the practice of his profession.
In its simplest form, the invention einbodies a pern'ianent base and replaceable trays intended for single use and then to be discarded, thus obviating the necessity of sterilizing the receptacle between patients. A. distinct merit of the invention is that it provides for the sanitary support of instruments or articles of such length as to overhang the margin of the base, whichis so constructed as to enable the immediate support or' tray to conform to the overhang without the hazard o1 casual displacement.
In the annexed drawings,-
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the assembly.
Fig. 2 illustrates the units in detached relation.
Fig. 3 is a sectional View of the base.
According to my invention, 1 provide a base 5 constructed of refractory material, as for example, glass, Wood or metal, so as to be more or less permanent. The base 5 is of circular shallow cup form with a curved or tapered rim 6 defining a receptacle 7 whose side wall is substantially perpendicular and roughened for a purpose hereinafter referred to. The base is provided with op- 1926. Serial N0. 119,629.
posed marginal notches .8, alfording finger grlps, and with a radial passway or gap 9, which latter serves the dual otfice of increas ing the capacity of the receptacle and of fa cllitating the removal oi the sanitary lining medium or tray. 1
The lining medium or tray may well be a cupped disk 10 of paper designed. to snugly lit the receptacle 7 oi the base, the retention of the tray in the receptacle being promoted by giving its side wall an upward flare. Held thusly as well as. by the roughened wall 01" the receptacle, the area of the tray can be extended beyond the marginal limits of the receptacle 7 by molding it to the contour of the passway or gap 9. After single use the element 10 may readily be ejected and replaced by a fresh one.
Having described my invention, I claim- An appliance of the character stated, comprising a base having acup portion to receive paper linings or trays, the side wall of the cup having a gap, and a paper lining having a rim portion which may be molded to fit said gap, whereby dental implements may be sanitarily supported with their overhang in substantially the plane of the lining, the outer margin of the cup portion having opposed notches which constitute grips. y
In testimony whereof I ailix my signature.
FRANK L. DAILEY.
