The invention includes a baille axially dis-l posed with respect to the container that functions toprevent a centering of articles within the container about the centering point of circulating activity.

The invention further includes a receptacle centering and drain member attached to the tub adapted to be held in connection with a support for properlyl positioning the container and to effect a drainage outlet centrally disposed with reference thereto.

The invention alsol includesa support adapted to coact with the drain and centering member of the container to center the latter and also to afford a seat therefor without establishing a permanent connection therewith to render the container removable by simple upward lift. In connection with said support there is included iinpingement pads as of rubber that afford a limited gripping action upon the tub part connected therewith.

The invention includes a drain member centering with respect to the drain outlet connected with the tub.

The invention also includes a stopper for the receptacle drain,'a. reach member connected therewith and also associated means active to prevent clogging within the drain member.

The invention also includes driving conn nections to eifect proper reciprocati'on of the container and also'.` means for making or breaking driving connection with the container, including means forA elevating said container in relief ofsuch driving connection whereby other driven parts of the machine may bercontin'ued in operationwhile the container is at rest.

The invention further includes a resiliently activeA compensating means for reducing the jar attending the reverse movenient of the container, also it contains means for raising-the receptacle in relief vof its normal driving seat. i

Referring to the drawings 10, is a circular cabinet or shell adapted to house an oscillatory active container for the clothing designed to be washed. Suitable leg members 11 are provided, the same being suitably secured to housing 10. Cross brace members as 12, may be provided to reinforce the leg supports. Similarly a cross framing meinber as 13, may be provided for reinforcement of housing 10. A cross frame 14, may also be provided forfunctionin as a reinforcement for cabinet 10, and a so serve as tl-ie support .for a motor, gear and other partsof the machine. 15, is a general reference to a motor provided with an attachnient plate portion 16 which may be connected as shown vin Fig. 1, with the cross frame memberl'fi. 17, is a gear housing adapted to support shaft member 18, to which pulley 19, is attached and also vertical shaft 20, to which worm wheel 21, is iixed, which latter, is designed to be driven from worin22, on shaft 18.

Referring now particularly to a support for a container for clothing to be washed, 27 refers generally to a web casting, which in detail, comprises a sleeve or hub member 28 adapted to be sleeved upon the upper reach portion of centering sleeve 24, and to be seated (its lower end portion) upon ange member 25, on said sleeve. Radially from hub 28, supporting arms 29, are provided, each of which is fashioned at its extremity with seating means (as flanges) within which are designed to be secured, impinging members as 30, of rubber or the like, to afford both a resiliently active and also a resisting seat to limit slippage action as between the washing receptacle and said seat, whereby a non-fixed connection between said receptacle and seats may be provided and at the same time effecting such a connection that will serve under normal conditions in the operation of the machine to cause the receptacle to be oscillated.

Operating means to effect limited reciprocation of web casting 27, include a crank 30a, iixcd to vertical shaft 20, a pitman 305, one end of which has a pivotal connection with crank 30, and its other end having a pivotal connection with one arm 'of web casting 27, as at 30C, whereby as shaft`20 is turned the web casting will be caused to be oscillated Within a limited arc of movement. To facil itate resilient activity to prevent jar attending reversing movement of the web casting. the rubber gasket as 30, is interposed about pin member 30, and seated in the opening at the outer end of pitman member 30".

Referring particularly to the receptacle or container for clothes to be washed, 31, refers, generally to such receptacle, which, in practice, is preferably formed as shown, with its lower portion, fashioned on curved lines connecting the side and bottom wall and its top portion inturned as at 32 and out-turned as at 33 for closure conformity with a top closure member 34, detachably overlying a portion of the top ofI the machine and supported upon the upper edge of housing member l0. 35, is' a top cover (preferably of glass) forthe top of container 31. At the central bottom portion of the container an axially disposed opening 36, is provided and about said opening a depression 37, is formed in the bottom of the receptacle as an outlet sump leading to said aperture. To the bottom of the container a circular plate 38 is attached by a suitable mechanical means the same serving as the seating member of said receptacle in conjunction with -impinging members 30. Connected with plate member 38 is a centering member or plpe 39 adapted when the receptacle is in working position, to be sleeved within centering sleeve 24 in a turnable lit relation, said pipe member also serving as a drain member from the receptacle.

Referring' now particularly to matters that have to do with the circulating activity within the container when filled with the proper amount of water and the proper load of clothing to be washed, 40, are baille members, the saine being preferably fashioned with an expanded base or back portion and with inclined side portions terminating in a rounded forward edge portion similar to the fashioning shown in Fig. 7 of the drawings. The baille members are designedly fashioned to extend both upwardly towards the top of the receptacle and inwardly approaching the central or axial line of the. receptacle to the end that under the influence of reciprocal action of the container the water will be caused to follow lines upwardly along and between the batlie members and thence inwardly approaching the axis thereof and then downwardly and thence again outwardly, whereby a continnous spiral activity of the liquid flow is induced, including a similar tendencyiof direction of movement of the clothing therein, such activity being continuous throughout the entire inner circumference of the container.

Centrally located with respect to the concontainer, I have provided the baille member 4l, (preferably conical in shape) said member being suitably attached to the bottom of the tub and provided with cutaway portions 42, therein to permit a How of water from the container to the outlet opening from the container. The baille member is provided especially to prevent a centering of the clothing being washed, in and about the center of the container as would be the natural tendency in view of such centering portion being the least active to induce a radial movement of the liquid and clothes content towards the outer portion of the container. The baiiie is particularly serviceable in preventing entanglement of the clothing and in preventing cross currents that would otherwise measurably interfere with the maintenance of the spiral activity of the container content. 43, is a plug or stop for the exit opening in the bottom of the container, 44, is a perforated disc or plate attached thereto and 45, is a disintegrator member adapted to prevent stoppage within the drainway or pipe 39. in the container affording an easy and ready means for removing the plug to permit iow of water therefrom or for replacing the `same.

A drain member 48, is provided, the same heilig fixed to the lower end of centering sleeve 24, and is out-turned to form a connection for a hose as at 49, to which a normal hose connection 50, may be attached for purpose of effecting complete drainage.

In the operation of the machine, it is necessary under condition that the clothes container shall be rendered temporarily inoperative while gear parts of the machine con` tinue running, that means be provided for disconnecting the container from the reciprocating mechanism and to the end of facilitatin this result, I have provided a.' rockable s aft 61 supported at its inner end in a perforated boss extension 62, from drain member 58, the extreme forward end of said' shaft being cut away to provide a seating for the lower end of the container drain member 39, when the container is in seated position upon cushioning members 30 on the oscillating web member 27. kThe outer end of said arm is rockably supported in a box member 64 and to said shaft is attached the crank arm 65 disposed at an angle with respect to the flat surface of the cut away portion 63 on the inner end of shaft 61, thereby offcentering the same with respect to said cut away surface. Means for reciproeating the crankarm 65 including a reach member 66 extending upwardly and being provided at its upper end with a pin 67, the latter adapted to be entered through a substantially S shaped opening 68 (see Fig. 5) for engagement with locking seats 69 and 70 respectively at the extremities of said opening, whereby when the container is seated upon its support, the pin will occupy a locked position in the lower portion of said opening and when the pin is elevated to move crank arm 65 in a manner to turn shaft 61 to raise the tub from its driving seat with the lower end of drain member 48 resting upon the normal periphery of said shaft, that said pin 67 will be seated in the upper engagement seat,y 69 whereby said container will be elevated from its normal working seat and will be supported in such osition upon the outer end of shaft 61. 1, is a knob or hand hold member fixed to pin 67 which is serviceable as a means for raising or lowering reach member 66.

A gear connection is shown in the figures having operating wringer shaft 60, to the end that a wringer may be operated, however as this feature is not included within the invention sought to be presented, no special reference is made to the same.

What I claim is:

1. In a washing machine, in combination, general framing and housing members, a

support for a washing receptacle arranged on a vertical pivot with respect to the framing and provided with an extended horizontally disposed seat portion, cushioning meinbers on said seat, a washing receptacle having a centerin pin attached to the bottom of the tub to faci 'tate removable centering and seating of the receptacle with 'relation to the axial center of the support and for removably seating on the latter by means of simple vertical lift, and means for oscillating the support.

2. In a washing machine, in combination, general framing members including a base and a housing wall, a support for a washing receptacle comprising a sleeve member vertically pivoted in connection with the base and provided at its upper end with laterally radiating arm members, cushioning members on said arm members, an oscillating means for said support including a driven shaft provided with a crank arm and a reach member having a connection with said support eccentrically with respect to the axis of its support, and a washing receptacle removzbfly seated onsaid support by simple vertical 3. In a washing machine, in combination, general framing members including a base and a housing wall, a support for a washing receptacle comprising a sleeve member vertically pivoted in connection with the base and provided at its upper end with laterally radiating arm members, cushioning members on said arm members, an oscillating means for said support including a driven shaft provided with a crank arm and a reach member having a connection with said support eccentrically with respect to the axis of its support, a washing receptacle removably seated on said support by simple vertical lift, and means for elevating said receptacle in relief of the support including a rocker member normally in relief of said receptacle but operable to raise the same.

4. In a washing machine, in combination, a suitable framing, a receptacle support thereon provided with a horizontally disposed seat for said receptacle provided with a depending centering sleeve, a washing receptacle seated thereon in a manner to be readily bodily removable from the washing machine by simple vertical lift, means for oscillating said receptacle support, and means co-operating with the receptacle centering sleeve for raising said receptacle in relief of its support to adapt the receptacle to be at rest while said support may continue to be oscillated.

5.` Ina washing machine, in combination, a main support, a vertically positioned sleeve member centrally disposed thereon, a vertically positioned oscillating support for a washing machine .receptacle provided with an axially disposed centering member deill'i pending therefrom 1for centering and support about the sleeve member of the frame, a washing receptacle for seating upon said support provided with a centering member depending from the axial center of the bottom of the tub for centering and seating in connection with the sleeve member of the frame and means for oscillating the washing machine container support through a limited arc.

6. In a Washing machine, in combination, a main support, a vertically disposed sleeve member thereon, a seat for a Washing receptacle having cushioning means thereon and provided with a sleeve member depending from the bottom thereof centered about the sleeve member on the frame, a receptacle for seating placement upon said support provided with a centering member depending from the axial center of its bottom portion for centering and seating in conjunction with the sleeve member on the trame and means for oscillating said receptacle seat.

7. In a Washing machine, in combination, a main support, a Washing receptacle support oscillat-ably mounted therein provided with radially extending seating members, cushioning pads thereon, and a Washing receptacle removably seatable upon said support to establish a simple frictional connec tion therebetween.

8. In a Washing machine, in combination` a frame, power operated oscillating means thereon, a vertically disposed imperforate tub connected for oscillation by said oscillating means, said tub having relatively spaced agitator members therein, a housing spaced from the tub and surrounding the same and a closure cap overlying the space between said housing and tub.

9. In a Washing machine, in combination, a frame, power operated oscillating means thereon, a vertically disposed impert'orate tub inturned at its upper portion and fashioned to provide a circular opening, said tub having relatively spaced agitator members therein, a cover for the circular opening, a housing member surrounding the tub and spaced therefrom, and a cover overlying the space between the tub and housing in a relation thereto to ellect substantial closure sealing therebetween.

10. In a Washing machine, a trama, a sleeve member supported in the frame, a seat for a tub centered about the sleeve having substantially horizontally extending members, means for oscillating theA seating member, an impertorate tub supportable upon the seat and removable therefrom by simple vertical liftand means for centering the tub With respect to the seat.

In a Washing machine, in combination, a frame, a sleeve member supported 1n the frame, a seat for a tub centered about the sleeve having substantially horizontally extending members, means for oscillating the seating member, an imperforate tub supportable upon the seat and removable tl1erefrom by simple vertical lift, and means for centering the tub with respect to the seat conslsting of an axially disposed depending centering member thereon to facilitate centering relation with respect to the tub and sleeve member.

In a washing machine, in combination, a frame, a tub supported therein provided with an axially disposed drain opening, a member upstanding from the bott/om of the tub and extending to a point above the normal water line, said member centerimr with respect to the drain opening and a p unger member supported from the top portion of said upstanding member and vertically reclprocable with relation thereto, provided at its lower end with a closure plug for said opening.

13. In a washing machine, in combination, a frame, a vertically disposed tub supported thereon provided with an axially disposed drain opening, a plunger member extending upwardly within said tub to a point. above the normal water line, and means in connection with the tub for supporting and controlling said plunger member.

In a washing machine, in combination, a frame, an oscillating tub support supported thereon, including a seating portion lying in substantially a horizontal plane, 'friction material associated with said seating portion and a tub removably supported on the tub support and removable therefrom by simple vertical lift.

In a Washing machine, in combination, a frame, an oscillating tub support supported thereon, including a seating portion lying in substantially a horizontal plane, friction material associated With said seating portion, a tub removably supported on the tub support and removable therefrom by simple vertical lift, and means respectively on the tub and in conjunction with the tub seat for preventing relative lateral movement.

16. In a Washing machine, in combination, a trame, an oscillating tub seat thereon provided With cushioning members resiliently active on a line with the oscillating movement of the tub, a tub removably seated on the tub seat and removable therefrom by simple vert-ical lift.

17. In a Washing machine, in combination, a frame, a sleeve member thereon, an oscillating tub seat centered With respect to said sleeve. a tub supported in conjunction with the tub seat, provided with a drain opening at the axial center of its bottom portion, a sleeve member attached to the tub and depending therefrom in axial alignment with the vertical axis of the tub, and adapted for support and centering in conjunction with the first named sleeve.

A washing machine comprising a tub having a centrally disposed drain opening, a nipple extending downwardly beneath the tub from said opening and a support for said tub comprising a platform oscillatable about a vertical axis, and a sleeve element centrally disposed in said platform adapted to slidably receive said nipple to center the tub on the platform, said platform having a 'supporting surface of material adapted to frictionally engage the bottom of the tub.
