UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FLUSHING APPARATUS FOR \VATER-CLOSETS WITH CLOSED FLUSHING BOXES.
Application filed April 1, 1927, Serial No.
Flushing apparatus for water closets with closed flushing box have become known in which the bottom valve of the water box is opened, after the opening of an auxiliary valve, by water flowing in underneath a piston connected to said bottom valve.
This invention has for its object to improve the flushing box so that the construction of the same and of its auxiliary means is considerably simplified and a secure function of the same is ensured.
The invention consists in mounting the bottom valve on a cylinder which is shittable on a stationary piston, the water being supplied underneath the cylinder bottom by the intermediary of a valve through the hollow piston rod.
The invention consists further in providing underneath the water supply to the shift able cylinder an outflow opening forretarding the closing of the bottom valve of the water box and for re-supplying air to the same after every flushing.
The invention may be carried out in various manners. One embodiment of the invention is shown, by way of example, in the only figure of the accompanying drawing which shows the improved flushing apparatus in vertical section.
The water box a, communicates with the water main 0 by a port I), and it is shut off by a bottom valve 01 from the collecting box 6. The bottom valve (Z is fixed on a cylinder 9 shiftably mounted on a stationary I piston f, said cylinder having a metal lining 71.. The cylinder g may be made of cast iron, the stationary piston and its hollow tubular piston rod 71 being made of brass. The bottom valve has at its lower end air outlet channels 70.
The stationary tubular piston rod 2' is connected at its rear end. 0 closed by a valve Z to the water pipe 0 which. has, underneath the piston rod, a narrow outflow channel In.
The valve Z is connected with a rod 0 con trolled by a spring a and operated by an oscillatable lever g which has a cam p. The water box a is fixed on a bracket 7' by means of a nut s.

The flushing apparatus for the water closet acts so that, when the lover Q is pulled, water can flow from below under the top plate 9 of the cylinder which is lifted by the water pressure so that the bottom valve (Z is opened. The water flows then through a? the passage d. into the collecting box a and thence through the outflow tube tby natural fall into the cistern. After the water has flowed out, the cylinder can descend only gradually by gravity as the water which stands under the top plate 9 of the cylinder can flow out only slowly through the passage m. The closing of the bottom valve (Z is thus retarded and fresh air is supplied to the water box after every flushing, a perfect functioning of the flushing apparatus being ensured.
I I claim Y 1. A flushing apparatus for water closets with closed flushing box, comprising in combination with the water main, a water box. a stationary hollow piston in the bottom end of said water box, a. cylinder shiftably mounted on'said stationary piston a bottom valve in said cylinder, a valve in said ater main for supplying water through said hollow piston underneath the top plate of said. cylinder to lift this cylinder and to open said bottom valve, and a pull lever for operating said water supply valve.
2. A flushing apparatus for water closets with closed flushing box, comprising in combination with the water main, a water box, a stationary hollow piston in the bottom end of said water box, a cylinder shiltably mounted on said stationary piston, 11 bottom valve in said cylinder, a valve in said water main for supplying water through said hollow piston underneath the top plate of said pen cylinder to lift this cylinder and to said bottom valve. a pull lever for operatu I said water supply valve, and a narrow water outlet underneath thewater supply to said shiftable cylinder for retarding the closing of said bottom valve and for supplying fresh air to said water box after every flushing.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
GEORG KRAUSS.
