Application :Bled July at,
This invention relates to a valve designed primarily for use in connection withplunger pumps employed in mines, but itto he understood that a valve in accordance with this invention may be used in any conncc tion for which it is found applicable, and the invention has 'for its object to provide.` in a manner as hereinafter set forth, tor reA ducing the wear ot the inner edge ot the valve body as it moves on the piston thereby resulting in overcoming; the necessity to replace the valve at short ii'itervals, incr-eas ing the lite of the valve and n'iaterially de creasing the cost ot maintenance and turther reducing,l the stoppage ot operation ot' the pump to a material extent.
Further objects ot the invention are to provide, in a manner as hereinatter set forth, a valve which is simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, compact, thoroughly efficient in its use, conveniently install-ed with respect to a piston or plunger, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture,
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists ot the novel construction, combination and arrangement ot parts as hereinafter more speciiically described, and illustrated in lthe accompany ing drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifica-- tions can be resorted to which tall within the scope of the claim hereunto appended.
In the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views:
Figure l is an elevation ot a valve in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2 is a cross sectional view thereof.
A valve in accordance with this invention, comprises a body portion l in the form ot an annulus and with its inner edge indicated at 2 and its outer edge at 3. The width of the body portion l from its inner to its outer edge can be as desired. The body portion l is also otappropriate diameter, and is constructed of resilient material,
195W. Serial No. 209,019'.
preferably rubber and which possesses a clamping characteristic with respect to the piston, with which the valve is used, to provide a seal tight joint and in order to secure compression.
Embedded in the body portion l. is a metallic ring; a having its inner diameter corresponding to the inner diameter ot the body portion l and the ring` t has its inner tace Yflush with the inner edge 2 ot the body portion l. The thickness ot the body portion ot the ring; 4ris as desired and the said ring Al is positioned centrally with respect to the inner edge 2 of the body portion l. The metal employed tor the ring` d possesses a characteristic to resist the action or sul phur water or in other words the ring Llis constructed of corrosion resisting` metal and acts to prevent the inner edge 2 ot' the body portion l trom wearing; over size and out of shape. The ring1 l is moulded in the body portion l. The rino," a materially reduc-es the wearing oil of the inner edge 2 ot the body portion l and the result is that the lite ot the valve is materially increased..
llt is thought the many advantages ot a valve, in accordance with this invention and for the purpose set `forth, can be readily understood, and although the preferred embodiment ot the invention. is as illustrated and described, yet it is to be understood that changes in the details ot construction can be had which will tall within the scope ot' the invention as claimed.
l/Vhat ll claim is:
A valve comprising a compressible body portion in the torm ot an annulus, and a corrosion resist-ingl metallic ring; embedded in said body7 portion and having its inner edge flush throughout with the inner edge ot the annulus, said ring; spaced from both faces oit the annulus, having; its outer diameter materially less than the outer diameter et the annulus, of rectangular cross section and ot uniform cross sectional width.
ln testimony whereof, l atlizriny signature hereto.
