` My invention relates to extension tables of the type in which the extension top is carried with the table for movement into and out of extended position, and relates to a simple, effective, easily applied and economically manufactured mechanism for supporting the extension top for movement into and out of extended position.

Referringto the drawing 1 designates a table frame of usual rectangular marginal form. Secured at the top of this frame and extending across the same at the center thereof isA a support piece 2, and a main table top 3 is supported at its center on this support piece 2, this table top being secured with the support piece 2 against hori- Zonta] movement by a piece 4 secured on the under side of the table top and engaged in a corresponding aperture of the support piece to permit vertical movement of the table top.

Extension table tops 5 are provided which are adapted to lie between the frame 1 and the top 3 on respective sides of the .support piece 2 when in folded or contracted positions as shown in Figures 1 and 2. Each of these extension tops 5 is carried for movement into and out of extended position in the following manner. `A pair of parallel .support members 6 of right angle section are secured at the underside of a respective extension top 5 with legs of the angle section thereof disposed in vertical planes, and these supports extend outwardly beyond the inner side of this extension top. Bearing rollers 7, revolubly mounted on suitable brackets 8 secured on the inside of a respective side of the frame l, comprise outer bearings for the supports 6 and engage the lower edges i of. the vertical legs of the supports for supportingthe same for longitudinal movement. inner` bearings 9 are secured on the under side of the support piece2 and are provided with bearing openings 10 embracing the vertical legs of the support members 6 for longitudinal movement of the support inembers. The support members 6 have, at their extending ends, thelower portions of the vertical legs thereof turned transversely to provide stops ll engageable with the bearings 9 to limit extendingmovement of the support members, see Figures 3 and 4,` and the lower portions of theI bearing openings 10 are enlarged transversely, as designated at 12, to permit passage of the `stops 1l therethrough in abnormal positions of tlieextend- 111g ends of said support members 6 with respect tothe inner bearings 9. See F igure 5.

The vertical legs of the support members 6 underlying the extension top 5 are'tapered upwardly toward these ends, as designated at 13,and the extending portions of the supportmembers 6 extend downwardly at an acute angle to the plane of the extension top, as designated at 14, in order to elevate the extension top 5 to the normal plane of the main top 3 when the extension top '5 is in extended position, as shown in Figure 3, and to position the extension top 5 below the normal plane of the main top 3 when the extension top 5 is in folded or contracted position as shown in Figure 2.

In extending the extension top 5 it is pulled outwardly until the stops 11 engage the bearings`9 and as it elevates in its outward movement the main top 3 is lifted until theextension top 5 clears the same when the 95 which the outward movement of the extension top 5 is continued for the removal. mounting of the extension top 5 is accomy plished in an obviously similar manner.

Vllnle I have herein shown and particularly described the preferred embodiment of my invention I do not wislto be limited to the precise details of construction shown as changes mayreadily be made without departing from the spirit ofmmyinvention, but having thus described my invention I claim as new and desire to secure by Let-- ters Patent the following claims 4 1. In an extension table the combination with a table frame and an extension top, of parallel supports of right angle section secured on the` underside of the top with legs of the angle sections thereof disposed in vertical planes, and extending outwardly beyond the inner side of the top and having at their extending ends portions of the vertical legs thereof turned transversely to provide stops, and bearings on said frame and carrying said supports for longitudinal movement with respect thereto including inner bearings having hearing o enings emhracing'the vertical legs of said supports and having portions of said openings enlarged transversely to permit the passage of said stops therethrough in an abnormal position of said extending ends of said supports with respect thereto;

In an extension table the combination with a table'frame and an extensiontop, of parallel supports of right angle section lsecured on the underside of the top with legs of the angle sections thereof disposed in vertical planes, and extending outwardly beyond the inner side of the top and having at their extending ends the lower portions of the vertical `legs thereof turned transversely to provide stops, and bearings on said frame and carrying said supports for longitudinal movement with respect thereto including inner bearings. having bearin kopenings,embracing the vertical legs 0f sai supports and having the lower portions of said openings enlarged transversely to permit the passage of said stops therethrough.

3. In anh extension table the combinatlon with a table frame and an extension top, of parallel supports of right angle section secured on the underside of the top with legs of the angle sections thereof disposed in vertical planes, and extending outwardly beyond the inner side of the top and havin at their extending ends portions of the vertical legs thereof turned transversely to provide stops, outer bearing rollers on said frame engaging the lower edges of said vertical legs for supporting the same for longitudinal movement, inner hearings on said frame having bearing openings embracing the vel'- tical legs of said supports and having the lower portions of said openings enlarged transversely to permit the passage of said stops therethrough, said vertical legs having the lower edges thereofof the end portions thereof underlying said top tapered upwardly toward these ends and sald extending portions ot said supports extending downwardly at an acute angle to the plane of said top.' f A In witness whereof I afix my signature this third` day of August!` 1926.
