This invention relates to flasks, although It is the object there,- of, among other things,- to provide a metal flask with means for locking the closure member thereto, and for reinforcingtheineck thereof.
Otherfeatures and advantages of the invention will be apparent upon aninspection of the accompanying drawings in connection with the descriptionhereinafter contained and wherein a preferred embodiment of the invention is disclosed for the purpose of im parting an understanding thereof.
In the drawings, wherein like numerals of reference indicate like parts in the several figures;
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a metal flask embodying my invention, with its closure member positioned for entrance into the neck of the flask;
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional elevation thereof, taken generally upon line 2-2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a perspective fragmentary view of a portion of one of the sections of the flask body.
Figure 4: is a perspective view of the cam plates; and
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the cam plates and collar member, partly in section.
The type of flask herein shown consists of a body member constructed of two sections 10, each having a semi-circular portion 11 at its upper end, which unite to form the circular neck 12. These portions are in part permanently secured together at their upper ends by a collar 13, which as shown is substantially U-shape in cross section,the wall 14 thereof being upon the outside of the neck and the wall 15 upon the inside thereof. This wall besides performing a mechanical function forms a bead. which is ornamental and gives the neck a neat and pleasing appearance.
The walls 14 and 15 upon opposite sides of the neck portion, provide solid rings that permanently secure the body sections together at the neck, and the collar conceals and covers the joints between these sections and provides a face thicker than the neck to receive the closure member.
Rigidly secured to the walls 15 are two cam plates 16 which are curved lengthwise and have a cam face 17 upon the underside Serial No; 153,633;
thereof,'. which. terminates atv one end in a stop 18. These cam. plates 16 are so positioned upon the wall 15as to leave an open space 19'between the opposite ends thereof and the stops; 18. substantially diametrically opposite each other.
The cam plates 16, and collarv 13 are first assembled as shown in Figure 5, and then, as a unit, both are assembled with the sections 10, being secured by solder, brazing or other convenient means. After being thus assembled, if desired, the outer face of the collar and the top faces of the cam plates 16 may be ground oif smooth to furnish a straight face, against which rests a cork washer 20 fixed in the head 21 of the closure member 22. This latter member is assembled with the body b being projected into the throat of the necc portion between the cam plates 16, at which time the locking lugs 23 pass through the ,open spaces 19. This closure member 22 is then turned about its axis with the lugs 23 thereon riding against the cam faces 17 and locking the same against accidental movement with the cork Washer 20 against the top of the sections and forming a non-leakable joint.
The mechanism herein disclosed provides a new and novel, as well as a simple bayonet joint, which is economical to construct and assemble. It also provides a reinforcing and a securing structure for the body sec- 1 tions. These parts, in addition to their mechanical advantages and conveniences, enhance the artistic appearance of the flask.
\Vhat I claim asnew and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a flask composed of a plurality of sections and having a neck at one end; a re inforcing and closure locking member connected therewith, comprising a substantially U-shape member secured to the neck which is projected into the open space between the walls of the member; and a plurality of cam plates secured to the inner wall of the mem ber, these cam plates being less than half the diameter of the inside wall of the member and secured thereto so as to leave an open space therebetween.
2. In a flask composed of a plurality of sections; a substantially "U-shape collar tions together, the opposite walls of the collar being upon opposite sides of the neck; and spaced cam plates, each of which is provided with a stop, connected with the inneewall of the collar, in combination with a closure member having laterally projecting lugs thereon, the overall distance between the lugs being substantially the same as the inside diameter of the collar.
3. In a flask composed offia plurality of sections and having, a neck at one end; a reinforcing and closure lockingmember connected therewith, comprising a substantially U-shape member secured to the neck, which is projected into the open space between the walls of the member; and a plurality of 0am plates secured to and parallel with the inner Wall of the member, these cam plates being, less than half the diameter of the inless than halflhe diameterof the inside Wall ofthe member and secured thereto so as to leave an open space therebetween.
