The organization of the invention coinprises a moving apron to carry the material' operated upon and a plurality of moving feeding tapes bearing upon the Cniaterial. The coaction of the apron and tapes will propel and smooth the material `operated upon. j l

A fragmentary portion of a printing press is indicated with the side frames 2O and 21, in which is journaled the shaft 22. A print` ing press cylinder 23 and the spur gear 24C are fastened to the shaft 22. ,The cylinder 23 ik spur gear 28 is fastened to the shaft 22. A pulley 110 is fastened to the shaft 100. A sprocket chain Wheel 111, is fastened to the shaft 107. A sprocket chain wheel 112 is fastened to the drum shaft 50. A sprocket. chain 116 Connects the sprocket chain Wheels 111 and 112, and rotation is thereby transmitted from the drum shaft 50 to the shafts 106 and 107. i
A pair of journal brackets 122 are supported on the beams 32 antL 33 and have journaled thereon the tape Wheel shaft 123. A pulley 12e is fastened to the shaft 123 and a Cross belt 125 connects the pulleys 110 and 124;, to transmit rotation from the shaft 106 to the shaft 123; A plurality of pulleys 128 are fastened to the shaft 123.
A pair of journal brackets 130 are clamped to the inner faces of the beams 32 and 33, by means of the bolts 131, Which can engage different openings 132, 133 and 1311 in said beams, for the purpose of maintaining the apron 136 to be described at the requisite tension. A roller 135 isjournaled in the brackets 130. Anendless apron 136 is supported by the rollers 108 and 135.
A pair of adjustable journal brackets 140 are fastened to the inner faces of the supporting beams 32 and 33 by means of the bolts 144 and have journaled .therein the `shafts 1111 and 142 which are axially in line.
A Wooden idler roller 14:3 is fastened to the shafts 1111 and 142.
A pair of journal brackets 148 are fastened to the top faces of the lower ends of the beams 32and 33. A tape Wheel shaft 150 is journaled in the brackets 148. Pulleys 151 are fastened to the shaft 150, and feeding tapes 152 connect the pulleys 151 and 128. The Wooden roller 1413 bears on the lower members of the tapes 152 to locate said lower members in proper operative position relatively to the apron 136.`
To operate the propelling and smoothing device rotation is imparted to the spur gear 24, and thereby the printing press cylinder different positions.

The members 12n and 130 form a plurality of feeding.; nozzles 152g for the eut pieces of material 155e. The angle between the members 152 and 133, as Well as the pressure between the members 152n and 152c and the material operated upon can be varied by locating the idler roller 1113 in This is accomplished by locating the brackets 110 in different positions by means of the bolts 1&1. The out pieces of material are carried to the press cylinder 23 Where their forward ends are gripped by the grippers 27', and they are next delivered to a. folding machine, not shown. In case the forwarcfl ends of the eut pieces of material 155 are turned up or wrinkled they are smoothed out by the eoaction of the member 13G of the apron 136 and the members 152u of the feeding tapes 152, by reason of the said tapes running at a speed about double the speed of the apron 136. In case the forward ends of cut pieces of material 155a operated upon, are turned down, the member 13Gfl of the apron 130 continuously running forward, causes the turned-doWn ends to be straightened out. By this means the eut pieces of material 155 are delivered to the printing press `cylinder 23 in proper form.
Various modiiications may be made in the invention Without departing from the spirit thereof and the present exemplilication is to be taken as illustrativo and not limitative thereof.

In a propelling and smoothing device the combination of a pair of supportingr frames,
a drive roller journaled at one end of the frames, a pair of adjustable brackets bolted to the other end of the frames, a plurality of openings in the frames for the bolts` of the latter brackets to clamp them in different positions, a roller journaled in the ad lill) justable brackets, an endless apron supported on said rollers, said apronadapted to carry pieces of material operated upon, means to vturn the drive roller, a second pair of journal brackets supported on the supporting frames, a tape wheel shaft journaled in the second pair of brackets, means to turn the tape Wheel shaft, a plurality of pulleys fastened to the latter shaft, a third pair of journal brackets fastened to the supporting` frame, a tape` Wheel shaft journaled in the third pair of journal brackets, a plurality of pulleys fastened to the latter shaft, feeding tapes supported upon and connecting 'the pulleys of one shaft with the pulleys of the other shaft, a fourth pair of adjustable journal brackets fastened to the frames, a shaft journaled in the latter brackets, a roller fastened to the latter shaft, the latter roller bearing on the lower member of the feeding tapes and leading the lower member of each tape to takev an inclined direction to said apron, to form a plurality of feeding nozzles therewith for the pieces of material operated upon and means to move the tapes at a different speed than said apron.
