My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in a burning iron for repairing varnished surfaces and the lilre, and has for its object thc provision of a burning iron of this class which will be simple in structure, economical of nuinufacture, and highly efficient in use.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a burning iron in which a uniform temperature may be maintained so that lthe danger of burning, through having the burning iron at too high a temperature, larger areas on the finished surfaces, is eliminated.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a burning iron, in the use of which a saving of labor results and more,` efficient and satisfactory work is accomplished.
Other objects will appear hereinafter. The invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by a reference to the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification, and in which,

As shown in the drawings the invention comprises a handle extending through which is a bore S reduced as at 9. Projected into the bore S, preferably as a press fit, is a tube 10, which is closed at its end 11. The inner end of the tube engages against an insulatingr supporting block 12, in which is supported heating element cores 13 and 14, each of which is suitably wound with wires and connected to the terminals 15 and 16, which project through the supporting block 12. The cores 13 and 14 are in turn wound and bound together by wire 17, which is also suitably connected to the terminals 15 and 16. Projected into the reduced bore 9 is a. cord 18 provided with a suitable contact block 19 for attachment to a source of electrica-l energy. A supporting block 19 is mounted in the tube J0 adjacent its closed end for supporting the heating element comprising the cores wound as described.
It will be noted that this heating element extends well toward the closed end 11, so that the tube will be heated toward its closed end, suitable insulation insulating the heating element from the tube adjacent-the handle bearing end of the tube.
Mounted upon the tube 10, adjacent its closed end is a sleeve 20, which is connected to the tube by means of the rivets 21, or other suitable fastening means.
The burning tool may be of various shapes and sizes but in the drawings I have shown a typical burning tool comprising aplate 22 and a tubular shank 23, which is cut away as at 24.- This shank is insertable between the tube 10 'andf the lsleeve 20, the fitbeing a-close one and the rear end of the sleeve being somewhat more closely positioned relatively to the tube than is the forward end so that the further insertion of the tubular shank 23 into the sleeve 2O will effect a greater binding. The closed end of the tube l0 will serve to conduct to the shank of the burning tool t-he necessary heating to keep the blade portion 20 at the proper tempera ture, so that the efiiciency desired is attained and the advantages enumerated provided.
The simplicity of the structure as well as the economical manner in which it'may be manufactured are believed apparent.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of my invention, I do not wish to limit myself to the precise form of structure Shown, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as may come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A burning iron of the class described comprising: a tubular holdin member closed at one end; a heating e ement extended axially of said holding member iuteriorly' thereof; supporting members for retaining said heating element in spaced relation to the inner surface of Said holding member; a sleeve mounted on said holding member adjacent its closed end, the inner surface of said sleeve beino in spaced relation to the periphery of said holding?r member; and a tool providedwith a tubular shank for receiving said end of said holding member, said shank engaging between said sleeve and said holding member, said sleeve serving to clamp said tool on said holding member.
2.
