EXHAUST TANK.
App ication filed February This invention relates to an amparatus ttor subjecting}; canned material to the action of stean'n the general object of the ii'ivention beinp; to provide means for causing the cans to pass in a spiral path in a steam receptacle.
Another object of the ii'ivention is to pro vide means whereby the cans can be intro duced into the device in a steady stream and to provide means for ejecting the cans -trom the apparatus.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully describech illus trated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended clain In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a side view of one term of the invention.
Figure 2 is a plan view with parts broken away.
Figure 3 is a section on line 33 of F in are 2.
Figure l is a section on line l-4-. of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a section on line 5-5 of Fig ure 1.
liigure 6 is a view of the spring 19.
Figure 7 is a view of the recessed member 16.
Figure 8 is a view of the scat Cttl'l'ylllg member lat.
Figure 9 is a plan view, partly in section, showing a modification.
Tn these views 1 and 53 indicate a pair of tanks which are supported upon the uprights 3. lfiach tank provided with a spirally arranged flange 3 upon its inner wall which terms a spiral path for the cans. The drum a is rotatably mounted in each tank and this drum is formed with semicircular recesses 5 in its circumference for receiving portions 01' the cans the other portions of the cans lying in the space formed by the spiral flange so that as the drum is rotated the cans will. be forced up the path formed by the flange. The drums are arranged on shafts 6 which extend through the bottoms oi. the tanks and which are connected by the gears 7 to a horizontally arranged shalt 8. The gear on shaft 6 0T one of the tanks is connected by a gear 9 with a shaft- 10 which provided with a pulley 11 l. to that the drums can he rotated ilfroni any suitable source of power. it. casing 12 is connected with one s de Oil: the tank 1 and is in comn'iunication with the inlet opening oit' this tank. A carrier l?) is arranged in the casino 12 and said iarrier consists oi a, lower member 14; which carries the can seats in and an upper n'ieinljier ltl which. is provided with semi-circular recesses 17 in its circune :terence for receiving portions of the cans seated upon the seats iii. Tl'ie seats .15 project into the tank 1 and are one: C recesses in the drum in this tank so that the carrier is rotated by the movement of the drum. it is mounted upon the sna'lt 1t; journaled in the casing. [in opening 20 places the casing; in communication with the tank 1 so that cans can pass from the casing into the tank where they will be pushed off the seats 15 and upon the tlangre 3 by the drum during); the rotation of the parts and a s iring 19 is provided for directing the cans upon the seats of the carrier at the inlet opening' 22 of the casing 12. The cans are fed through the inlet opening by the conveyor means 523 which may be of any ordinary construction and they are taken from the discharge 2a of the tank 2 by a conveyor 25. A carrier 26 and its casing 27 is arranged between the upper parts of the tanks 1 and 2 for conveying the cans from tank 1. into tank 2. This carrier is similar to the carrier before descrilied. The tanks 1 and 9, are provided with detachable tops 28 which have openings therein which communicate with openii'igs in the casing 2? for permitting the carrier 26 to receive the cans From the tank 1 and deliver them to the tank 2. The tanks are provided with the steam pipes 29 and the drain pipes b0 so that the cans passing through the tanks are subjected to the action of steam.
In the modification a single tank 1 is shown and the c: ns reaching the upper end of the spiral path in this tank are directed through the discharge spout 31 by means of the flange 32 which is carried by the top Qti of the tank In this latter case the cans only pass through the one tank but in the first case the cans pass upwardly through one tank and are then (Ittltittl to the other tank by the carrier 26 and in this tank they pass downwardly to the disch ital. .zhH will be seen the cans are automatically ed by the P lit) through the steam tanks and by making the tanks of different sizes or using different numbers of tanks the canned material can be subjected to the action of steam for any desired period of time.
I prefer to form the drums as shown in the drawings though they may be formed in any other Way. As shown in these drawings the drums consist of a series of rings 33 fastened to the shaft 6 by the spokes 34L and having semi-circular recesses in their circui'nterences with verti al bars 3st connecting the recessed edges of the rings together, these bars forming a plurality of vertically arranged grooves in the drum through which the cans pass as the drum is being rotated and the cans being forced through the grooves by the spiral flange in the tank.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the sererai parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
hat I claim is An apparatus of the class described eoinprising a tank having a spirai flange on its innerwall, a drum having semi-circular recesses in its circumference tor holding eans on the flange means tor rotating the drum and a member for delivering cans to the tank, said member comprising a lower disk and an upper disk connected together. the lower disk hating spaced semi-eireuhu' enlargcn'ients on its periphery forming ean seats and the upper disk harinp ltt'tfttitherein for receiving portions ot the cans resting upon the seats, the seat forming portions entering the recesses in the drum as the drum rotates so that the movement of the drum will be communicated to the 'teeding member.
In testimony whereof I atliX my signature.
