Means for removing the lowerin( et Sheet troni the Stack Will now be described. Wip ere or Sheet engaging nieinbera lV, that may be called Strippers, are provided that are iletachably eecnred to a. transverse har l5 Vce Y Veo Fer and are arranged therealong so as to work on the lowerinostl sheet o't the stack at points between Vthe grid or supporting bars 10. Each ofthe strippers preferably includes a corrugated facing member, such as`16, that may be of yieldable material, such as rubber, and adapted to trietionally engage the surface oit the bottom-most sheet ot the stack as the wipers are moved thereagainst for a and 19 having rollers 17 and 2O 'toria a rigid,
movable structure which may be termed a carriage and is'adapted to roll back and Al'orth the channel tracks, the movement o't which is accomplished by means ot the following.
` A shaft 25, rotatable in the side trames, is driven by means of gears 2G from a main shaft 27 and is also geared to a jack shaft 2S by means of elliptical gears 29, which shaft 28 carries a crank '30j that is connected to the bracket 22 of the carriage by a connecting` rod or link 31.
vThe mechanism just described will roll the carriage, and consequently the strippers, back and forth and preferably with an accelerated speed at a certain time by means of the elliptical gears tor the purpose later to be described, while at the saine time the supports or channel tracks are raised and lowered by the following means. Support-v ing and operating levers 35, pivotally inounted on studs 3G of each oit the side frames (see Fig. 3), have their upper ends Vpivotally connected to the channel tracks 18 l'or supporting and actuating the tracks, while other levers 3T, fixed to an oscillating shaft 38, also have their upper ends similarly pivoted to the said channel tracks.
Vsimultaneously raising` them up and down vare preferably so arranged and relativelv timed that the ypath of movement thereof will be substantially as illustrated atan enlarged scale in Fig, 5 and may be easily accomplished or .varied as desired by providing such lever, cam and gear arrangementsd as will combine to actuate the saine in the desired manner. However, in the torni V oi"- the invention at present preferred, the
reseeea parts are arranged so that the path ot movement will correspond to the path illustrated.
F or clearness, the path may be subdivided in the following manner: o to 71 in the direction et the arrow may represent that portion ot the cycle oit movement when the strippers are in Contact with and acting` on the lowerinost sheet et the stack, while trom 7i around to a may represent that portion when the strippers leave the sheet and return beneath the stack to again engage i t1 fr the next successive sheet lor removal thereot.
According to an important lfeature ol the invention, the .speed ol' the wipers need not be uniform throughout the c vcle ot operation; that is, the mechanism may be ar ranged and adapted so that as the stripper arrives at point a, the speed is somewhat slower than trom o to o so that the impact oli' the stripper with the sheet will not cause a slipping ot' the stripper on the sheet. Also` according to another feature, as the sheet is delivered to receiving rolls subsequent to its removal troni thestacli', and also since the sheet will be engaged and under the influence ot both the feed rolls and the Wiper at the saine time as troni the point ni/7' to Z1, the mechanism is arranged so that the stripper will travel at a lineal speed substantially corresponding to that of the teed rolls. 1With this arrangement, there will be no relative movement between the stripper and the sheet or between the rolls and the sheet while the .sheet is under the influence of both. rlhat is, the sheet may be engaged by and under the intluence oil the toed rolls as it is being rcmoved troni the stack by the stripper without disturbiiig its vtrictional engagement with either.
The 't'eed rolls referred to are indicated by il() and are fixed on shat'ts 5l and 532 rotatable in the side trames l and l. The shalt 5l is driven b v nieans ot sprockets 59) and and chain 55 from the shaft 2.7 and is geared by means o l' the `fears 5G to the shafl't 5&2 ior driving said shaft in an accurate timed relation with respect' thereto. rl`he shat't 5L) is preferably; mounted in bearings 5T that are movable in slots 5ta' ol' the trames l and springs of) actingou.the bearings tend to urge the rollsI et shal't 52 against those oli shatt 51.
Other rolls i5 t'or `tnt-tional engagement with thev rolls just described are prmJided and act in ronjuuction therewith to receive sheets therebetween that are delivered therer` to by the strippers lil. These rolls 75 are mounted in a traine. structure `which is adapted 'tor easy removal from the apparatus to render the rolls 50, just described. readih` accessible. rThe trame includes :i central supporting bar o() that may be dropped into slots (il at the upper sides of ill Lemerre g3 lille irllliloe l, :llld llorizollilllly slvililgillg strobe (i2 arranged lo overlie lille seid sl'lzll'iis ero provided Wiizll tlll'ln'lb eere'lvs 63 for prille-sing :llld lloldillg ille slizlliis in Jelle slots olf tbe 'rllllles. lleariilg;` b wickets 65, llzied io the ellzl'fi GO ildjzlcerllb ille frames l,Y Carry noli-rotatable. but vertically movable ellillts GG and ,G7 Wlliell ore preferably disposed direetll7 above and parallel lo ille shells 5l and Springs; 70, ille ielieion of lvlliell is ldjllsi'ilble bv lllefllie olf screws Tl, are ezlrried iii elle brackets G5 :ind are :lr 'llllged lo bellr oli opposite ends of Seid slla'lts zuid ielld i'o urge tlle rolls; i5 ilkqgziviilel; lille rolls 50.
