CARD-TABLE EXTENSION.

This invention relates to table extensions, and especially to an extension for card tables. As is well known, the ordinary card table is square and adapted to accomnmdate four players. \Vhen it is desired to play games having more than four players, such as poker, the usual card table is too small. It 1s one object of my invention to provide an extension comprising several sections,

which can be readily applied to such a table and enlarge the same to accommodate more players.

lVhen adapting my invention to square tables as illustrated in the drawing, I provide four 90 sections, each of which cooperates with and forms an extension of one side of the table. Means are provided for securing the sections together and a portion of the ends of each section rests on the cor ners of the table. I Other meansmay be provided as illustrated for preventing upward movement of the sections and for holding poker chips. It is a further object of my invention to provide such an improved table extension for the purpose defined.

In the accompanying drawing, I have illustrated one specific embodiment of my invention, but it will be understood that the invention can be otherwise embodied. and

that the drawing is not to be construed as defining or limiting the scope of the invention, the claim appended to this specification being relied upon for that purpose.

In the drawing, 1 indicates an ordinary square card table supported on legs 2. This table ordinarily accommodates four players.

My invention herein comprises an extension therefor made up of a plurality of sections adapted to be mounted thereon and to considerably enlarge the. table when room for more players is desired.

As illustrated in the drawing, I preferably provide an extension section 3 for each side of the table, each section for a square table being a quarter or 90 section. In the drawing, I have illustrated the sections as formed from pressed sheet metal, but it will of course be understood that the same can be formed otherwise if desired. The sections are all identical and a description of one will therefore suffice.

Each section 3 has a straight inner face 4; adapted to engage one side of the table and an arcuate outer face 5, when the extended table to be round as illustrated. As one means for securing the sections together, I have illustrated one end of each section as provided with a bolt 6 and thumb nut 7 thereon, and the other end as provided with a cooperating slotted lug 8. The ends of the sections are also extended at 9 in a manner adapted to rest on the table corners. Spring latches 10 secured to each face 4 are adapted to engage beneath the edge piece 11 of the table and prevent upward'movement of the table extension.

As above stated, my invention is particularly applicable to card tables and especially adapted to convert an ordinary card table into a poker table. \Vhen such a table is to be formed, I preferably provide a plurality of poker chip-holding grooves 12 in the sections 3. As illustrated in the drawing, I 'may provide two such grooves in each section, thereby adapting the extended table to eight players.

It is believed that the construction, use. and advantages of my improved table extension will be clear from the above description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing. The extension is easy to manufacture, since the sections 3 thereof are identical. These sections are adapted to be used in connection with an ordinary card table and are entirely inde pendent of the table. The sections may be very quickly and easily applied to the table when desired. The four sections may be connected together without removing the thumb nuts 7. and when the sections are in place on the table, the two remaining unconnected ends thereof may be secured together byapplying the thumb nut 7 to the connecting bolt 6. The extension rests on' the table corners at f) and the latches 10 prevent upward movement thereof.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is: i

As an article of manufacture, a table extension member of pressed sheet metal hav ing a plane top surface, with grooves pressed therein to receive playing pieces; said extension member having a straight inner side of a length agreeing with the length of the side of the table to which it is to be connected, said inner side being formed With a, turned down flange extending at right angles to the top surface, said member having an arcuate outer side with a turned down flange, the curve on which the outer side is formed being struck from the center of the table to which the extension is to be connected, the radius being greater than the distance from the center of the table to one of its corners, the ends of the extension connecting the inner and outer sides being cut on radial lines emanating from the center of the table 90 degrees apart, supporting tabs on said member formed at the inner corners of the top sur face by extending said ends inwardly beyond the inner side, means at the inner side of said member adapted to engage the under edge of a table to co-operate with said tabs in connecting the member to the table, complementary connecting devices at opposite ends of the member whereby a plurality of said members may be arranged about a table and connected together to form extensions of the table.
