BOTTLE STOPPER.

The invention relates to a closure, and
- more especially to'the class of bottle stoppers and extractors therefor. The primary obiect of the invention is the provision of a c osure of this character, wherein the same is exemplified as a stopper to be conveniently inserted in the mouth of a container, such as a bottle, whether it he a soft drink containing bottle, milk bottle, medicine bottle, or the like, to positively seal the mouth of the container and will be readily removable therefrom, without the use of a corkscrew or other opener or extractor, which ordinarily mutilate or damage the closure, especially where it is required to constantly remove the closure from the mouth of the container.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a closure of this character, wherein the same is of a novel construction so that the mouth portion of the container will be thereof, so as to positively and firmly seal.

A still further object of the invention is the provision of a closure of this character, wherein the same simulates a stopper adapted to be engaged in the mouth of a container, exemplified as a bottle, and when soengagcd the exterior surface of the mouth portion of the bottle will be firmly gripped and sealed, to assure the retention of the closure in the mouth of the bottle or the closing thereof, without liability of the accidei'ilal slipping out of the closure from the month of the bottle.
A still furtherobject of the invention is the provision of a closure of this character, wherein the construction thereof is novel in form, as the said closure is equipped with a means operable to initially release the gripping action of the closure exterrorly of the mouth portion of the container and to finally extract the closure from the mouth of the container, without excessive labor onthe part at the same timelwithof the closure, thereby assuringincreased usage of such closure.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a closure of this character, which 18 extremely simple in construction,
thoroughly reliable and efficient in its purpose, strong, durable and inexpensive to manufacture.
W'ith these and other ohjectsin view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described in detail, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.

Similar refereniaa characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several may be made from any other suitable material having the required resiliency or'elasticity and-is formed with ahead 7 provided with a reduced central tapered portion 8 which is adapted to be inserted into the mouth 13 of the container A, in a like manner release of the closure and the final extraction as an ordinary cork stopper would be engaged in the mouth of said bottle or container- The portion 8 is of considerably less size than the head 7, which in this instance is of substantially circular formation and from the marginal edge of said head extends concentrically with respect to the tapered portion 8 an annular rim 9, haying the required inherent resiliency or elasticity to snugly embrace the mouth portion B of the container A externally thereof as is clearly shown in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawing.
The disposition of the tapered portlon 8 and the rim 9 relative to each other provides therebetween a deep channel for accommo-- dating the mouth portion B of the container A and at the inner end of this channel in the wall of the rim 9 at the inner face thereof is formed a groove 10 which in its contour corresponds to the bead externally on the mouth edge ofthe container A, so that when the portion 8 is forced into the mouththe rim 9 will encircle the outer wall of the portion B of the container and the external bead at the mouth of the container A will become seated in the groove 10, so that the stopper will seal the mouth B of the container A as will be clearly apparent in Figure 2 of the drawing. a
Formed centrally of the head 7 is a pull strap 11, which may be integral with the head or permanently connected thereto in any desirable manner and is preferably 'made from rubber, although the same may be made from any other suitable material having inherent resiliency or elasticity. This pull strap 11 at its outer end merges into a plurality of pull straps 12, these being disposed in opposite relation to each other and extend downwardly beyond opposite sides of the stopper body 6' and have their end portionsremote from the junctureof the strap 11 therewith merging into the rim 9 or integrally formed therewith, yet these end portions may be otherwise permanently fastenedto the rim 9 if found desirable.
The purpose of the pull straps 12 is to exert a pulling action on the rim 9 of the stopper body 6 to initially cause this rim to curl outwardly and upwardly as is shown 1n Flgure 3 of the drawing, thereby breaking contact between'the rim and the outer surface of the mouth B 'of the bottle or container A, whereupon the strap '11 is finally pulled upon so as to readily and conveniently extract the portion 8 of thebody 6 of the stopper from the mouth of the container A for the opening thereof.
The connected arrangement of the straps 11 and 12 with each other presents loop formations, for the fingers of the operator of the closure, so that proper pulling action can be had on the said straps for the initial thereof from the mouth B of the container A, this being clearly obvious from Figures 2, 3 and 4.- of the drawing.
In the application of the closure it is only necessary to center the portion 8 relative to the "open mouth B of the container A and.
Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings In this manner the container A will be closed at its mouth B and firmly sealed.
With reference to Figure 6 of the drawing, there is showna slight modification of the invention, whereln the eontalner A has formed at its mouthedge a relatively pronounced external bead B, while the closure for the head 7 is formed with a center disclike table 8" at the mouth B of the container A as is clearly shown and is surrounded concentrically with an annular rim .9 having the required inherent resiliency or elasticity to snugly embrace the mouth B of the container A externally thereof. The head and rim 7 and 9'- respectively are provided with the pull straps 11 and 12, these simulating the pull straps hereinbefore described. The
rim at its inner face is formed with the usual channel or groove 10 to accommodate the bead on the mouth B of the container. I
From the foregoing it is thought that the construction and manner of application of theclosure to the container A will be clearly understood and also the modeof release of the closure, so a more extended explanation has been omitted.

comprising a body formed with a central stopper-like extension engageable in the mouth of a container, a'yieldable rim formed on the body, spaced from and concentrically disposed relative to the extension to frictionally engage the external surface of the mouth portion of the container, and pull means located externally on the body and connected subsequently extract the cork extension of the body from the mouth of said container,
