My invention relates to drilling mecha nisms. 1
It'lias for'itsobject to provide antimproved drilling mechanism. Another object is to provide an improved hole cleansing means. A further object is to provide improvedhole cleansing control means in a drilling mechanism employing a'fluid distributing valve. Another object is to provide improved movement of the fluid distributingvalve tocleanse the hole being drilled. A further object is to provide improved manually operable meansfor holding the fluid distribution valveat one end of its stroke in order to direct live pressure fluid to only one end of the hammer piston from which fluid might flow through ahollow steel and thereby cleanse the hole. Another object is to provide improved manually operable cam means for accomplishing the above function. In the accompanying drawings I have shown for purposes of illustration oneform which my invention may assume in practlce' In thesedrawings,

In the illustrative form of my invention I have shown the same embodied within a drilling mechanism comprising a usual cylinder 1 having a piston 2 reciprocably 5 mounted therein and projecting forwardly from which is a striking bar 3 having flutes l adapted to cooperate with lugs in a chuck nut 5. Jlny suitable ratchet and rifle bar mechanism, not shownymay be carried in the rear head 7 to cause rotation of the pisten 2 and also of a chuck sleeve 8 which carries the chuck nut 5, this sleeVe being rotatably mounted within a chuck housing 9 carried on the front end ofthe cylinder.
Also carried by the rear head are usual hole cleansing fluid conducting tubeslO one of which terminates within the hollow steel 11 carried in the sleeve 8. 1. The combination with a drilling mechanisinhaving a valve mechanism including an automatic fluid distributing valve, side rods for holding means including control means therefor comprising a member pivotally connected to one of said side'rods and provided with means for controlling said valve.

The combination With a drilling mechanism liavingavalve mechanism including an automatic fluid. distributing valve-and side rods for holding parts of said valve mechanism inasseinbled relatiomof hole cleansing means including control means comprising a lever pivotally connected to one of said side rods and having a cam portion formed thereon for actuating said valve.
3. The combination with a drillingmechanism having an automatic fluid distributing valve, side rods for holding nism inassembled relation, and a stem engageable with said valve for varying the operation thereof, of holecleansing means parts of said valve mechanism 111 assembled relation, of hole cleansing a valve mechanism including.
parts ofsaid valve mecha-' including control means comprising amanually operable cam member pivotally c0nnected to one of said side rods and in slidable thereof, of hole cleansing means including;
