Referring to the drawing, 1 and 2 represent the two sections of the frame, the sections being identical in size and preferably similar in construction. Preferably and as illustrated each frame section comprises vertical side members 3, 3, and horizontal top and bottom members 4, 4, these several mem here being rabbeted together at the corners. The two frames are connected together by any suitable means such as screws and the wire mesh 5 is clamped between the two sections. Preferably as clearly shown in Fig. 2, the wire mesh is permanently attached, as for instance by tacking, to one of the frame members, in this case the frame member 1. While I do not limit myself to any particular means for connecting the two frame members together, I prefer to use at least at some points screws 6 which extend through one frame member into threaded bushings 7 fixed in the other member. .both. i Eachi-of-zthesadgiacent companion top or bottom members of the two frames is provided with two similar recesses 10, 10 in line with each other and separated by an abutment 11. The recesses of the two members are in register and slidably mounted in the respective recesses 10, 10 are blocks or plungers 12, 12 to which are-connected horizontally extending rods l3, 13. These rods lie in grooves formed in the two adjacent members of the frame and at their outer ends are threaded into or otherwise connected with the beforementioned adjustable strips 8,8. Springs 14, 14 are seated in the respective recesses 10, 10 and these springs bear against the two plungers 12, 12 and also against the abutment 11. The springs tend to hold the plungers in their outermost positions as shown thus holding the adjusting strips in their outermost positions.
One of the frame elements is provided with slots 15, 15 adjacent the plungers 12, 12 and finger grips 16, 16 are secured to these plungersand extend outward through the slots. Preferably as shown the finger grips are threaded into the respective plungers. I prefer to provide a metal plate 17 with slots 18, 18 therein registering with the slots 15, 15. This metal plate serves to protect the edges of the slots 15,15 and also improves the generalfappearance of the screen. By simultaneously gripping the two airs of finger; grips 16, 16 the vertical a justable strips at both sides of the screen will simultaneously be drawn inward thus allowing the screen to be put in place or removed. Obviously when the pressure on the finger grips is removed the springs 14, 14 will force the adjusting strips outward either until they engage the window casing or until the plungers 12, 12 engage the ends of the recesses 1O, 10.
From the foregoing description it will be apparent that the double frame construction not only gives great strength, but also makes it possible to easily replace the wire mesh when necessary. It will further be clear that the screen can be easily and quickly adjusted so as to be put in place in a window or removed therefrom. The finger grips serve not only to adjust the'adjustable strips but also serve as means whereby the entire screenmay be held while being put in place or removed.
That I claim is:
A window screen comprising in combination two similar frame. sections each of which comprises a top, a bottom and a pair of side rails; rabbets formed on the side rails of each frame section; a recess formed in each of the top and bottom rails of each frame section approximately at the center thereof; a transverse abutment formed at the center of each recess; a semi-circular roove in each end of each of the topand Bottom rails, extending between each-0f the opposite ends of the said recess and the base of the rabbet of the respective side rails; a series of internally threaded bushings in one of said frame sections; a series of screws adapted to pass through the other frame section and to cooperate with said bushings to secure the frame sections together whereby the said side rail rabbets of the respective frame sections cooperate to form side grooves in said screen, the said recesses, abutments and semi-circular grooves of each frame section cooperatively register with each other to form respectively a singular recess and abutment and singular circular openings connecting the said recesses and said side grooves; strips in said side grooves laterally adjustable with respect to said screen; a plunger in each of said singular recesses between the end thereof and the abutment therein; a round rod in each of the singular circular openings cooperatively connecting one end of each of said plungers with one end of one of said adjustable strips; a spring between the opposite end of each plunger and one side of the abutment; a slot formed in the top and bottom rails of one of said frame sections communicating with the said singular recess therein; finger grips attached to each of said plungers and extending through said slot; and a wire mesh fabric secured to one of said frame sections and gripped between the pairtthereof.
