It is an object ofouij invention to provide an'attachment for the valve in a cementbucket whereby the valve will be retained in its seat until the bottoin of th-e well is reached, allowing the `valve to be again seated without difiiculty beforethe ,bucket is again used.v
Referring to the drawing herewith, we have illustrated one embodiment of the invention, Fig'. 1 being a side elevation of one form of cement bucket having ourV improved valve thereon. i section of the lower end of the bucket showing the valvein position therein. In the drawing, I have shown a bucket 1, such as may be employed for holding cement while it is lowered to the bottomof thewell. Said bucket has aii upper bail 2 vwhich may be engaged vby `a cable or other 'lexible device for lowering the same into he well. V
At the lower end of the bucket is a valve housing 3 threadedV at its upper end for attachmentwithin the lower end of the bucket. The valve housing is tubularin shape,'havinga'central passage 4 therethrough to allow an outlet for the cement. The upper The valve 6 comprises a cylindrical head,

In'order to'prevent the upward inovement of the'valve while the bucket is being low- .ered,we provide on 'opposite sides of 'the valve stem 7, and spaced downwardly from the upper endV thereof a pair of'spring memand flattened plates; the upperV eiids of which are provided with openings vto receive a pinv or bolt "10 extending diametrically through theiva'lve Stein 17 and :'act-ing to clainp the upper ends of the' spring members 9 within shallow recesses 11', forined in the sides of the said valve stein. The plates' are curved o 'outwardly at-their lower ends to fit against i `the' inner'wallsl of the passage 4. One of these Springs 9 is shorter than the opposite spring 9' so that the ends of the two Springs may engage within a spiral groove or recess 12 vin the inner wall of the housing.

In the operation of the device the valve is seatedvat the lower end of the bucket and in so doing it may be necessary to rotate the valve Stein, pulling downwardly during said rotation upon the lowerend of the valve. The bucket is then ready for use, and when it Vis 'lowered into the well to the bottoin therei of, ,the lower end 8 will strike the bottom, forcing the valve up ofvitsseat and allowing the discharge of the cement through the passage L1 about the valve stem. It will be noted that the Springs bearing in the troughs of 'the groove or thread 12 will tend to resist any accidental blow upon the valve tending to unseat the same and will also prevent the 'valve from falling off its sea-t due to pressure of liquid below it. The heavy blow received at the lower end of the valve when it Strikes the bottoin of the well will, however, unseat the valve in the usual manner. The'bucket will then be raised to the surface ioo and the valve' again seated by drawing i poses than the dnmping of cement.
