UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GORDON M. GALE, OF MAYWOOD, GALIIFOIRINIA.
LOOSE-LEAF BINDER.
, Application filed August 31, 1926, Serial m3. 132,826.
it will be particularly strong and yet so flexible that the covers may be bent back uponor underneath each other.
My invention is illustrated in theaccom- In panying drawings wherein 'Figure 1 is a perspective view of a loose leaf binder constructed in accordance with my invention, the figure showing in full lines the covers folded over upon each other, and in dotted lines the covers open;
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary transverse section through the binder;
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary edge elevation; Fig. 4 is a fragmentary perspective'view of one of the covers;
Fig. 5 is a section showing the means of attaching the strip 15. I 7
Referring to these drawings it will be seen that the binder consists of the two cover sections 10 and 11 which may be.
made of pasteboard. or any other suitable material. The inner edges of these cover sections are spaced from each other but connected to each other by the outer and inner layers of buckram or like textile fabric designated 12. V
Disposed between the inner edges 13 of the covers 10 and 11 and between the outer and inner edges of the buckram 12 is a strip 14 of cardboard or any like material constituting the back of the book and also a flexible connection between the covers of the book. Disposed on the inside of the section 11 but covered by thenbuckra-m 12, is a metallic strip 15 which isattachedto 4 the cover section 11 at a plurality of points as, for instance, by split rivets or equivalent devices ltl. I
Carried by the strip 15 are the pliable wire clips 17 designed to support-the loose leaves of the book; The inner end of these wires 17 is enlarged to form arivet 18 and preferably the strip 15 is notchedat 19'to receive the bill of the hook-shaped wire 17 when the latter is closed to a turned position. These pliable wiresmay be opened to permit their insertion through the perforations in the leaves of the book and may be then closed V to a position where the bill is engaged within the slot or notch 19. This construction is adapted to be used for any and all loose leaf book bindings and one of the particular features of the invention is that the top section may be folded cle'ar back and under the bottom section, as shown in Figure 1. I do not wish to be limited to the particular shape or character of the book shown as the invention may be applied to many dif ferent shapes. 1
I claim y r A loose leaf binder including a cover section', a metallic strip attached to one face of said 'coversection, and pliable rnetallic clips having their inner' ends. overturned upon the innerfface of the metallic strip, 70 the metallic .strip at its edge having open notches for the ends of said pliable clips.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature.
GORDON M. GALE.
