The present invention relates to an improved tool or implement such as is com,w monly known in the trade as a Wire splicer, the same having more particular reference to a tool which is particularly constructed i'er bending and twisting together" the ends ot two wires in order `that they may be securely connected together. f
Brieifiy, the invention comprises a handle having a pair of spaced parallel plates riveted to its outer end, there being a slotted ratchet wheel rotatably mounted between the plates, a double acting pawl mechanism for regulating the action et the ratchet wheel, and the ratchet wheel being provided with outstanding apertured lugs in which the bent end ot one wire is fastened.
My principal aim is to generally improve upon wire splicing implements of this class by providing` one wherein the parts are` so associated and connected, as to insure prac ticability and eiiciency in operation and use. rThe particular details and method in which they are associated with each other, will become more readily apparent from the 'following description and drawings.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a side view of a wire splicing tool construct-ed in accordance with the present invention.

Referring to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that 1 represents the handle which is in the form ot' a flat bar having` a notch 2 (F Ll) formed at its outer end and the notch operating as a socket for reception ot a coiled spring 3. This coiled spring surrounds a rivet 4- carried by the central portion ot a plate 5, this plate being slidably mounted between a pair ot spaced parallel side members 6, which are riveted to and eX- 'end beyond the outer end of the handle.
These side members -are provided with ci rcular openings in which the journals of a rotatably mounted ratchet whe-el 7 are arranged. Obviously, the ratchet wheel is provided with suitable ratchet teeth, and in this connection it is provided with a keyhole shaped slot 8 adapted to register with an cntfance slot 9 for the fence wire 10. A pair ot oppositely disposed pawls 11 are pivot-ally supported between 'the side members, each pawl having its nose engaged with the ratchetv teeth and having its opposite inner end'shaped and flattened as at 12, vto bear against the spring pressed plate 5.
yIt will be noticed that the ratchet wheel is provided with a pair oi oppositely extending apertured` lugs 13, which obviously serve to receive the'bent end 14 of the complemental wire 15. y
In using the device, I employ a suitable wire clamp 16 of the type represented in dotted lines in Fig. 5. This is engaged with the two wires which are arranged in the association shown in Fig. 5. The bent end 14 of the wire 15 is extended through the aperture in the lug 13, While the wire 10 is arranged in the keyhole slot 8. Obviously by moving the handle back and forth, in a customary manner, the ratchet and pawl mechanism will serve to wrap the wire 10 about the wire 15 as indicated at'l in Fig. 5.
It is believed that by considering the description in connection with the drawings, a clear understanding of the construction and operation of the invention will be had. Therefore, a more lengthy description is thought unnecessary.
While the preferred embodiment ot the invention has been shown and described, it is'to be understood that minor changes coming within the field of invention claimed may be resorted to if desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is n 1. A wire splicer comprising a handle, a pair of side members connected to the outer end oit, the handle and extending beyond said end `in spaced parallelism and provided adjacent their outer ends with substantially circular openings, a toothed ratchet wheel located between said side members and including journals rotatably mounted in said openings, said ratchet wheel being provided with a wire slot and with an outstanding integral apertured wire end receiving lug, and double-acting spring pressed pawl mechanism carried by theY side members and cooperable with the teeth of the ratchet wheel.
2. A wire splicer of the class described, comprising a handle provided at its outer end with a notch forming a spring receiving socket, a pair of side members fastened Cil to opposite sides of the handle and extending outwardly beyond the outer ends of the handle in spaced parallelism, said side menibers being provided with a pair of oppositely disposed bearing openings, a toothed ratchet wheel located between said side members and including journals rotatably mounted in said openings, said ratchet 'wheel having. a substantially keyhole shaped slot extending radially from its center, the ends of said side members being provided with openings adapted to register with the slots, a pair of integral outwardly extending lugs carriedA by the peripheral portion of the ratchet wheel, spring pressed pawls pivotally mounted between the side members and cooperable with the teeth of the ratchet wheel, a plate slidably mounted between the side members and engageable with the pivot-ed ends of the pawls,"a rivet carried by the center of the plate, and a coiled spring surrounding the rivet at one end and having its opposite end located in said spring receiving socket.
3. As a new product of manufacture, a wire splicing tool of the class described, coinpi'isinga handle provided at its outer end with a wire entrance, a pawl and ratchet mechanism mount-ed upon the outer end portion of the handle and associated with said enti-ance, the ratchet being provided with an opening for passage ofone of the wires, and being further provided with a means for anchoring an adjacent end of the coinplemental wire.
