The invention is in the .nature of-a childs rocking horse andit aims to provide a new and improved device of this'general character in which novel provision is madewhereby thechild may cause the device to `forwardly creep across the floor if desired, kprovision being made however for-throwing the creeping means out of play wheirrocking inv one position only is desired.

yVith the foregoing in view, the invention resides in the novel subjectinatter herein after described and claimed, the description being supplemented by the accompanying drawings.

In t-he drawings above brieiiy described, the numerals 8 designate two parallel, vertically disposed side members or rockers having curved lower edges 9 to contact with the iioor, said edges being of considerably less length than the overlying yor major portions of said side members or rochers. These members are connected by a suitable seat 10 and ahandle barll, which hold them in rigidly spaced relation.

A second pair of rockers 12 are provided, disposed at the innery sides of the rockers 8 and having curved lower edges 13 which y project forwardly beyond the edges 9. At

their front ends, these rockers 12 are vertically widened as at 14, and by suitable pivots 15, these widened ends are pivoted to the roc-kers or side members 8, the pivots being above the edges 9 and in front of the seat 10. Near the front edges of the widened rocker portions la, the rockers or side members 8 are preferably provided with stop pins 16 which limit the relative tilting of the two pairs of rochers.

A footl board 17 rigidly connects the front portions of the rockers 12, and the rear ends of the latter are rigidly connected by aI transverse bar 18. Pivoted at 19 upon this transverse bar, is a locking bar 20. When this bar is swung to the position shown in Figs. 1 and 3, pivotal movement of the two pairs of rockers with respect to. each other -is permitted. but when bar 2O is swung to a vposition longitudinally of the bar 18, it projects beyond the rockers 12, itsends being then receivable in grooves 21 which are formed in the inner sides of the rockers or members 8. Thus, the two pairs of rockers are held against relativepivotal movement and when they are so locked, the edges 13 of the inner rockers 12a-re a slight distance below the edges 9 of the outer yrockers or vis invited to the fact that `when the device stands as in Fig. 1, a certain distance 'A eX- ists between the front ends of the rockers 12 and the front ends of the rockers 8, whereas, when the device is rocked to the position of Fig. 2, the relative pivotal movement of the two pairs of rockers is suoli that the aforesaid distance shortens, as indicated at A in Fig. 2. In other words, as the device is rocked forwardly and the front portions of the edges 13 engage the floor and support the weight, the rockers 8 rock slightly about the pivot-s 15, causing them to advance to some extent. Then, when the ydevice is rearwardly rocked, the runners 8 supportthe load at the positions to which they have been advanced. Thus, by shifting the weight of the body and rocking the device forwardly and rearwardly, it is caused to creep over the floor.

Whenever the device is to be used for rocking without forward creeping, the bar 2() may be moved into engagement with the notches 21, throwing the creeping means out of play. When the device is in condi tion either for mere rocking or for rocking and creeping, it not only produces a great deal of amusement and pleasure to the occu`- pant, but it constitutes an effective exerciser and general developer.

As excellent results are obtainable from the details disclosed, such details may well be followed. However, within the scope of the invention as claimed, variations may be made.
