A TTORNEK Patented Nov. 1, 1927.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES J. GIBSON, OF GREENVILLE, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO GIBSON REFRIGERA- TOR COMPANY, OF GREENVILLE, MICHIGAN, A CORPORATION OF MICHIGAN.
HANGER.
Application filed August 19, 1926.
ments in refrigerators and more especially to means for mounting therein refrigerating units.
In household refrigerators utilizing refrigerating machines it is usual for the cold storage unit or refrigerating coil to be mounted in the ice compartment, by suspension from the ceiling of the compart ment. This presents a problem to the maker of the refrigerator itself, in that all of the makes of the machines do not utilize the same size or shape or type of unit in the said ice compartment and, therefore, each installation presents a different problem.
Among the objects of the present invention, therefore, is the overcoming of this difficulty by providing means which is of universal use in installing these units irrespective of variations in shape or size.
Other objects will more clearly appear to those skilled in the art upon reference to the accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1 is a partial front elevation of a refrigerator showingthe device in position;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged section through the upper wall of an ice compartment and a hanger;
Fig. 3 is a section on line 33 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is a view of the ceiling of the ice compartmentshowing four of the hangers and the areas covered thereby;
Fig. 5 is a detail of the slotted member.
As indicated the hanger itself consists of a tubular anchor piece threaded in its lower end and flanged at its upper end as at 11, a slotted member 12, through which a screw or bolt 13 passes and is threaded into the lower end of anchor member 10, and a second bolt 14 which also passes through slotted member 12 and serves to support the refrigerating unit (not shown).
The member 12, shown more in detail in Fig. 5, consists of a plate provided with a longitudinal slot surrounded by a countersunk portion 21 leaving the full thickness of the plate as a rim around the edge as shown at 22. This form of the member permits the head of bolt 14 to lie below or even with the surface of rim 22 as shown in Fig. 3.
Serial No. 130,176.
Further, in order to distribute the pressure of the head of screw 13 over a larger area of the member 12 a flanged washer 25 may be used if desired.
As shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 4, the device is to be fixed in the ceiling of the refrigerator compartment by securing the member 10 therein with its lower end projecting a short distance, not over the depth of countersink 21 of member 12. The slotted member is then secured thereto as shown by screw 13 with the washer 25, the bolt 14 having been previously inserted. By fixing in place several, say four, of the devices in the ceiling of the compartment, substantially any size or shape of unit may be suspended, as the members 12 and bolts 14 may be moved relatively and also relative to member 10 to locate bolts 14 at any position in a circular area of which the radius is the length of slot 20. These areas are indicated at in Fig. 4.
In Fig. 1, indicates a portion of a refrigerator, with its door at 36. In Fig.
2, the wall of the refrigerator shown in section consists of an outer metal sheathing 40, a wood sheathing 41, heat insulation 42, an inner wood sheathing 43, and an inner metal lining 44 with an air space 45 between the latter two.
Having now described the invention and the preferred form of embodiment thereof it is to be understood that the said invention is not to be limited to the specific details herein described and shown but only by the scope of the claim which follows.
I claim A device of the character described consisting of an anchor piece threaded interiorly at one end and adapted to be embedded in a refrigerator wall with the threaded end exposed and projecting therefrom, a slotted member adapted to be adjustably secured to said exposed end and countersunk to receive the said projecting end and a bolt co-operating with said slotted member for suspending a refrigerating unit therefrom, said bolt having its head also in the countersink.
CHARLES J. GIBSON.
