' This invention relates to hair dressing apparatus and more particularly to curling devices.

Such devices are extensively used by women and are especially in' vogue in hair dressing establishments which cater to their trade, being disposed on the apparatus in .multiple' formation and it is therefore desirable that they be arranged for convenient and rapid handling.

One of the objects of this invention is to provide an adapter for the sockets of curling units enabling ready and easy handling of the individual implements.

In the drawing, the numeral 5 generally desi nates a standard type of cone-shaped heating unit or socket having a cylindrical longitudinal bore and being provided with an asbestos covered loop 6 from which emerges a cable 7 connected to a source of electrical energy, this socket containing high resistance coils and constituting a heater, all of the foregoing being of well lmown construction and constituting no part ofthe The adapter. consists of a light, thinwalled metal tube 8, made pre erably of aluminum, and provided, approximately midway in its length, with an integral outstanding bead 9.

s The lower portion of the tube contains a plurality of uniformly spaced parallel slots 10, extending from the end nearly to the head 9, imparting a resilient effect to the tube, the slotted end of which is provided with an outwardly projecting curved, annular flange 11, the distancebetween the bead and. flange exactly equalling the'length of the heater socket.

The slottedend portion of the tuba is the unit'and adapter are positively enp entered into the bore of the heater 5 until the bead 9 contacts against the top of the heater and the flange 11 springs outwardly from the bottom of the same, due to the resiliency of the tube thus confining the adapter within the heater, but permitting it to be removed upon the application of forcesufiicient to contract the tube by partially closing the slots.

During the haircurling operations, the hair isfirst wound about a core and is then covered with thin steam pads coiled over the hair, these pads being moistened with water or any preferred solution. The. whole is placed in the tube 8 through the slotted end ortion.

The electric current is then applied for time intervals depending upon the degree of curling or efiect desired. I

In removing the adapter, the upper part of the tube 8 is used as a handle and by force, withdrawn from the-heating socket.

. Thus, by means of the bead 9 and flange 11, the adapter is held rigidly in the unit 5 until it is desired to withdraw the same and is obviously interchangeable.

Although the foregoing is descriptive of the referred embodiment of the invention, it Wlll be apparent that minor changes may be made in its construction, without the exercise of invention or conflictin with the scope of the claims hereto appen ed.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim'as new and desire .to secure by Let'- ters Patent, is:- v

1. An adapter for electric curling devices comprisin in combination with a heating unit, a tu e, an extruded bead on said tube, and resilient means at one end of said tube to firmly engage the heating unit, when fully entered therein.

2. An adapter for electric curling devices comprisin unit, a tu e engageable in the heating unit, and means on said tube to resiliently lock the same when in engagement within the heating unit. v v

3. An adapter for electric curling devices comprisin in combination with a heating unit, a tu e in combination with a heating engageable in the heating unit, I
