PUMP MECHANISM.
Application filed December 10, 1923. Serial No. 679,655.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a pump.
One object of the invention is to provide a high pressure pump specially designed for l the purpose of Compressing air and delivering the same under pressure to any desired place; the pump has been specially designed for use in connection with pneumatic lifting jacks, for the purpose of operating said j acks inlifting and handling heavy objects,
but it may be utilized for general purposes.
Another object of the invention is to provide a pump of the character described which is of very simple Construction and consequently may be produced cheaply and easily kept in repair.
Tith the above and other objects in view, this invention has partcular relation to certain novel features ofvconstruction, operation, and arrangeinent of parts, an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the acconpanying djrawings,

In the drawings the numeral 1 designates the pump head, which is a long metal block having an intake and a discharge manifold lengthwise therethrough and designated by the numerals 2 and 3. The head has a plu ralitv of bores 4, forming Cylinders, in
which the pistons reciprocate. These pis-v tons work through suitable stufling boxes 6 which are carried by said head l. The plungers are rigidly connected to the respective push bars 7 which are slidable in suitable bearings in the transverse guide block 8. The head l and guide block 8 are secured in fixed relation by suitable bars 9, all forming a framework for the pump. Mounted in suitable bearings, as 10, in this framework, there is a Crank shaft 11. Connecting rods 12 are pivoted to the push bars 7, at one end, and their other ends have bea-rings on the respective wrists of the Crank shaft.
The plungers are driven through the Crank shaft in the obvious manner and said shaft is driven by any suitable power, as for example, a motor.
Each Cylinder 4 coinmunicates with the intake manifold through the Valve seat 13, which is controlled by the ball Valve 14, which is confined in the cage 15, and. also communicates with the exhaust manifold through the Valve seat 16 which is controlled by the Valve 17 confined with the Cage 18 and normally held seated by the push spring 19. The inlet and discharge air lines 20 and 21, respectively, are Connected into the intake and exhaust manifolds, respectively.
A six cylinder pump has been shown and this type will usually be found most practical where a Constant and substantially uniform pressure is required. i
WVhat I claim is:
A pump including an elongated pump head having an intake manifold and a discharge manifold extending lengthwise' therethrough, said head having a pluralit-y of bores forming Cylinders, plungers in said Cylinders, a plurality of pairs of bars, the bars of each pair being spaced apart and connected at one end to said head, bearing blocks secured between the other ends of the respective pairs of bars, each block hav ing a bea-ring, a Crank shaft rotatable in said bearings and formed with wrists, a guide block secured between the bars and spaced from said head and crank shaft, said guide block being formed With bearings, push bars in vthe bearings of said guide block, Connectng rods pivotally connectedV to the respective push bars at one end and whose other ends are formed with bearings on the respective wrists of the Crank shaft, rods rigidly connecting the push bars to the corresponding plungers, valve seats through which the respective cylinders communicate with the intake and exhaust manifolds and intake and exhaust valves controlling said seats. i
