Description

Patented June 15, 187 5.
WITNESSES ATTORNEY THE GRAPHIC CO.PHOTO -LITIL39&4I PARK PLACLN.
t NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM MOE. DYE, OF CAIRO, EGYPT.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 164,435, dated J une 15, 1875; application filed February 20, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WLLLIAM lVIGE. DYE, of Cairo, Egypt, have. invented a new and Improved Fertilizer Orusher and Distributer, of which the following is a specification:
The invention will first be described in connection with drawing, and then pointed out in claim.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of my improved machine, taken on the line or w of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a plan view, and Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken on the line 3 y of Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the box of the truck, which corners at the rear end on the axle B, and has slots 0 in the hind endboard, also slots F in the bottom board, through which the arms G of the axle work to crush or pulverize, discharge, and distribute the contents, the axle being coupled to the wheels H by clutches I, one or both to be revolved by them when the arms are required to work. The slots F are formed in a couple of plates, J K, one above another, and connected to separate parts of a divided shaft, L, on which they may swing down to open the space altogether, in case of need, and a lever, M, having its fulcrum in the slotted plate, N, is coupled to the shaft, so as to shift one plate along the other for varying the width of the slots; also, for shifting the plates relatively to their supporting-studs P, so that they will drop down and open the space, or restore them and close the space. By having the slotted plate for the fulcrum of the lever it is allowed to swing with the shaft of the plates when they are so let fall or raised up.
In practice a slot, Q, will be made in the overhanging upper part of the box, to allow the lever M to swing freely when adjusting the plates for the width of the slots. It is shifted out of the slot when swinging the other way with the shaft.
One or more sliding plates, B, will be combined with the hind end-boards of the box, to close its slots when the machine is going along the road to the place for distributing the fertilizer.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patcut- The combination, with axles, the rear one provided with arms G, of body A, inclined downwardly from front to rear, the slotted plates J K, supported 011 studs P, and the lever fulorumed in slotted plate N, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose specified.
