CASE HOLDER.

This invention relates 'to a holder for cases, receptacles, etc., and particularly to a holder in the form ofa pocket, multiplecompartment or otherwise, which is adapted to be mounted as a fixture within an automobile body for the purpose of receiving such articles as a' vanity case, smoking set.- etc.

It is a primary object of my invention to provide for the purpose mentioned a neat and ornamental holder which will harmonize with the surrounding interior finish of the body or wall on which it is mounted; which will retain and protect against injury one or more cases or receptacles formed of precious metal, or other material; which will expose such a case or receptacle in a manner which is both attractive and convenient for re-. oyal: and which will receive interchangeably linings and front panels of varying finish and design, as desired for harmony with the surrounding decorative scheme.

An exemplification of my invention is set forth in the accompanying drawing in the manner following:

According to this invention, I provide a holder, preferably of metal, which comprises a back piece A having a connected bottom and ends B and C respectively. An open framework D, constituting the front piece, may be joined to the holder bottom and ends, as shown. The design of the front piece may, of course, be variously modified. In the form illustrated, an undulating top rail 4 is supported at two points intermediately of its ends by vertical bars 5. All the parts just described may desirably be made'of metal which is suitably finished to present an ornamental appearance.

Interiorly of the holder, I provide a twocomponent lining constituting back and frontsections, E and F respectively. Joined to the former are forwardly extending pieces 6 which form end sections. This back lining section is adapted to fit within the holder against the rear wall, the forward extensions lying adjacent the holder ends, as shown. Such a lining is preferably carried upon a sheet metal form 7 of suitable size, shape, and weight so as to reinforce the lining when fitted in place.

The front lining component F which is similarly built upon a form plate 8 is adapted to fit within the holder adjacent I theopen framework on the front side there of. lVhen so positioned, it is exposed to view through the cut-away portions of the front, as shown in Fig. 1. This lining piece may extend for the full length of the holder between its ends so as to be held in place by the front edges of the end sections 6 which extend forwardly from the rear lining section (see Fig.

I would have it noted that the holder may have its top edges curved or shaped in conforinity with any ornamental design which may be selected. The corresponding edges of the adjacent lining sections may then be similarly shaped, so as to' lie substantiallyflush therewith at every point around the holder. With the parts thus related, there is exposed to view very little of the metallic portion of the holder other than its two ends and the framework forming its front side.

Inasmuch as it may be desired to accommodate a plurality of articles within the holder, one or more partition members therein-may be found advantageous. Two such partitions, combined in a unitary structure, are provided by the use of a form plate 9 which may be rested adjacent the back lining, the plate ends 10being forwardly extended so as to present their front edges adjacent the front lining section F. A suitable lining material 11 may be applied to the form ends 10, while another piece of lining material 12, carried upon a supplementary form 13, is mounted upon the form plate 9. By suitable means of connection the lining 12, together with its form plate 13, remains I in fixed securement with the form 9, whereby this plate, together with its two'ends 10, may be handled as a unit. With a design such as is suggested in Figs. 1 and 2, the plates 10 provide for the holder two partitions which may align with the bars 5 whereby the holder is adequately strengthened from front to back intermediately of its ends. By this construction I have provided three pockets, those at the end being suitable for ash and match receptacles, and that in the center for Ill a toilet or vanity case. Owing to the presence of the supplementary plate 13, the front-to-back width of the center pocket is suitably reduced for the reception of a thin case.

One of the chief advantages of the present holder is that it is lined throughout in a manner which is both ornamental to the eye and protective to its contents. In ad dition, the decorative scheme for the surrounding body or wall may be extended into the case itself, by the use of a lining material which is the .an'ie or harmonious therewith. Not only is such a material visible as the lining for the holder, but, as the front panel as well, it is also exposed to view through the open framework of the holder. The assembly of the lining components may be readily accomplished withut any special preparation, after the holder is once completed. It is preferred that as part of the front framework a flange 14 should extend along the bottom and other flange 15 along the ends in a manner to overlap the adjacent edges of the front lining panel when the latter is set in place. By such a construction the lining is better protected and held in place, and the man ner of its assembly with the associated components is concealed.

In the suggestive embodiment of my invention herein shown, it is the front of the holder which is in the form of an open framework, although, as must be obvious, the ends which are also exposed to view might with advantage be similarly constructed. As any such modification is relatively inconsequential, inasmuch as it would fall within the purview of my inven tion as defined by the claims following, I have deemed it unnecessary to elaborate further upon the present disclosure which should be ample to guide anyone in an effective use of the invention.

A holder adapted for mounting on and in harmonious association with a wall covering of an automobile or the like comprising, an open top box-like receptacle having front, back, bottom and two end walls, the frontwall being in the form of an ornamental open frame work, a removable panel associated with the rear side of said front wall and visible therethrough, and a removalle lining for said back and end walls fitted within said receptacle, said panel and lining being formed of a material to harmonize with said wall. covering.

2. A holder adapted for mounting on and in harmonious association with a wall covering of an automobile or the like comprising, an open top box-like receptacle having front, back bottom and two end walls, the front wall being in the form of an ornamental open frame work, a removable panel associated with the rear side of said front wall and visible therethrough, a removable lining for said back and end Walls fitted within said receptacle, and spaced partition means interposed between said back lining and removable panel and reinforcing the latter, said panel, lining and partition means being formed of a material to harmonize with said wall covering.
