This invention relates to gambrels the general object of the invention is the provision of a frame member carrying holding arms thereon which are adapted for engagement with the extremities of food stuffs to sustain the latter in an elevated position.

More specifically stated the invention comprehencls the use of a latch finger, which when tripped by means carried at an approlo priatc point in the length of a track. upon which the invention is mounted for travel, said holding arms will automatically release in order that the food stuffs may be disengaged and the frame member substantially lowered in order that the device may travel on and complete a circuitous course.

Vith the above and other objects in view. the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to

be hereinafter more fully described, illus trated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring to the drawing in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates an elongated frame. The ends 11 of the frame are inwardly bent upon themselves substantially as illustrated in Figure 2 of the drawing.

ing movement of the holding arms 12. The free ends of each of the holding arms 12 are providing semi-circular cutout portions 15, the purpose of which will be readily apparout.

The release mechanism comprehends a housing 16 suspended from a rod 17 carried by a roller 17, travelling upon a track. Said housing is provided with registering cutout portions 18 adjacent its lower end and within the side walls thereof, the purpose of which will be readily apparent. A locking finger 19 is pivotally mounted within the housing and which provides a cutout portion 21) within one side thereof and when disposed in a locked position is arranged in direct alignment with the rcgisterin cutout portions 18 within the adjacent sic e walls within the hous ng. Said cutout portions are adapted to receive therein a pivot pin 21 carried at an appropriate point in the length and between the adjacent sides of the frame member 10. The upper end of the locking finger 15) is provided with a reduced extension .32. .t fulcrum lever 23 mounted within said housing provides a cutout portion 24 within the free end thereof and is adapted to normally receive the upper reduced extension 22 of the latch finger 19. Said fulcrum lever is held in engagement with said re duced extension through the instrumentality of a compression spring abutting, the underside of the top of said housing. A tripping or release finger 26 is carried upon the outer free end of the fulcrum lever 23 and encircling the housing, the purpose of which will be readily apparent. Yoke members 28 are pivotally mounted upon the housing and which have connected therewith chain lengths 29 which in turn have their remaining extremities connected with attaching ears or eyes 30 carried upon the upper sides and adjacent the free ends of the holding arms 12.

In the use and operation of the present invention it is clearly apparent and manifest that the legs or extremities of meat stufis may be positioned between the curved ends 11 of the frame 1.0 and the semi-circular cutout portions 15 of the holding arms 12 and held against displacement therein through the instrumentality of the springs 13 and stops l i precedent to the engagement of the pin 21 within the housing 1.0. Said locking finger 19 will normally suspend said frame member 10 therefrom and which is held against displacement by the spring tensioncd fulcrum lever 23. Manifestly the tripping or release finger 26 may be called into use when it is desirous to release said frame member from the housing and the locking finger carried thereby in order that the chain lengths 29 due to the weight of the frame member 10 will retract the action of the sn'ings 13 upon the holding arms 12, there y positioning said arms in a. manner as illustrated in Figure 2 of the drawing in order that the legs or extrei'nities of the meat stuffs may be released. In this connection the trip 26 may be operated by any suitable means. such as a curved arm I]! carried upon a. track 2-52. The operation of the device in conjunction with the arm 31 is clearly illustrated in Figure 7 of the drawing when the housing is supended from the roller 17 riding upon said track 32. It will be noted from the foregoing description and accompanying drawing that the food stuffs may be handled by an operator more easily and quickly due to the fact that the release apparatus, is in its nature automatic, and will obviate the usual necessity of lifting the food stuffs to release the same from the supporting apparatus.

The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as prop erly fall within the scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. A gambrel comprising a frame member,

holding arms carried thereby, and a release mechanism connected with the holding arms and adapted for selective engagement with the frame member.

A gambrel comprising a frame member, holding arms carried thereby adapted for swinging movement thereon, spring means carried by the frame member normally sustaining the holding arms in a locked position, and a release apparatus connected with the holding arms adapted for selective engagement with the frame member.

A gambrel comprising an elongated frame member, holding arms carried thereby, adapted for swinging movement thereon. spring means normally positioning the holding arms in their respective locked po sitions, a release mechanism adapted for selective engagement with the frame meniher, chain lengths communicating with the holding arms and latch mechanism respectively, and means carried by the latch release mechanism and connected with the frame member to facilitate the release of the holding arms when desired.

4. A gambrel comprising an elongated frame member, holding arms carried thereby and adapted for swinging movement thereon spring, means carried by the frame for sustaining the holding arms in their respective locked positions, a pin carried at an intermediate point in the length of the frame member, a housing adapted to receive an appropriate portion of the pivot pin for suspending said frame therefrom, and means carried by said housing for releasing said pivot pin.

A gambrel comprising an elongated frame n'ieinber, holding arms carried there by and adapted for swinging movement thereon, a pivot pin carried at an intermediate point in the length of the frame member, a housing providing cutout porlions within the adjacent side walls thereof and adapted to receive the pivot pin therein, a locking linger mounted within said housing for engagement with the pivot pin therein, a fulcrum lever carried by said housing and adapted for engagement with said locking linger, and means connected with said lever to facilitate the operation thereof incident to the release of the pivot pin from the housing.

6. A gambrel comprising an elongated frame member, a pivot pin carried thereby, a housing providing registering cutout portions within the adjacent side walls thereof for the reception of the pivot pin therein. a latch linger mounted within the housing and including a cutout portion within one side for receiving an appropriate portion of the pivot pin. therein, a reduced extension carried upon the remaining extremity of said linger, a fulcrum lever mounted within said housing and engageable with the reduced extension of the linger, and a trip carried upon the remaining extremity of the fulcrum lever exteriorly of said housing for releasing the locking linger from engagement with the pivot pin of the frame member.
