CLOTHES WRINGER.
Application filed July 17, 1925. Serial No. 44,299.
My invention relates to improvements in departing from the scope of my invention. clothes wringers and more particularly to The lower end of the tension screw, 10, is manually operated means for accomplishing threaded as shown at 11, and the threaded a quick release of pressure between the end of the tension screw, 10, fits into a head,
5 wringer rolls in case clothing or a hand or 12, which is threaded internally to corre- 60 other objectis caught therein. spond to the threads, 11. i
The objects of my invention are to pro- The lower faceof the head, 12, is rounded vide a simple. inexpensive means by which while the sides of the head, 12, are squared the tension of the wringer rollers can be to fit snugly and slide between the flanges,
readily and quickly adjusted to a desired 8, of the frame. A saddle, 7, is suitably 65 point and to combine therewith means for secured to the pressure bar, 6, preferably by readily and quickly releasing the wringer a press-fit of closely fitting slots formed in roll tension in case of emergency or when the lower portion thereof, but any desired otherwise desirable. method of securing the saddle to the pres I accomplish these objects by the mechasure bar may be used. 70 nism illustrated in the accompanying draw- The middle of the upper face of the sadjngSq i hi h dle, 7 is flat and the ends of the saddle are Figure 1 is a front elevation of a portion sharply beveled adjacent thereto. The flat of a wringer embodying my invention. but upper portion, '7, of the saddle forms a showing the wringer frame and tension seat for the lower end of the head, 12, and 75 are mounted rolls, 2 and 2', inthe usual way, the desired tension upon the saddle, 7, and
blocks in section on the line 1-1 of Figure the beveled ends of the saddle allow a 2; Fig. 2 is a vertical cross section on the quick release. 7

Fixed bearing blocks, pressure bar, 6. 4, support the shaft of the lower roll and In case the wrlnger is clogged by clothmovable tension blocks, 5, rest upon the ing or in case a hand is caught between shaft of the upper roll in the usual way. the rolls, the tension can be instantly re- A spring pressure bar, 6, is supported by leased by striking the handle, 15, a sharp the movable tension blocks, 5. The upper blow or by pushing it rapidly longitudinally portion of the frame is channel-shaped havof the frame, 1. This will cause the head, inga central'web,1, and flanges, 8, formed 12, to move to one end of the saddle, 7, integral therewith. A socket, 9, is formed at and allow the pressure bar, 6, to move upthe middle of the upper portion of the web wardly thus entirely releasing the tension extending upwardly and provided. with a between the rolls, 2 and 2'. To replace the longitudinal slot in which a tension screw, wringer in operative position, if thetension 10, is fitted so as to slide longitudinally of. is not too strong, the hand lever, 15, may be the frame. Aball, 13, is-formed integral moved manually into a vertical position as i 45 with the tension screw, 10, and of a size Shown in Figure 1, or if desired, the tension i 50 suitable means. A flange, 14, is preferably corresponding to the socket, 9, so as to seat screw, 10, maybe screwed down farther closely th i into the head, 12,until the head, 12, will A handle, 15, is secured to the tension move readily on the saddle, 7. After the screw, 10, preferably by a pin, 16, or other head, 12, is seated on the saddle, 7, the tension can be increased by unscrewing the 1 united to the handle and thus secured to tension screw, 10, tothe desired extent. the tension oradjusting screw,10,.and rides The head, 12', by reason of its straight upon the upper surface of the socket, 9. It sides, will be held from turning by the 6 is obvious that the flange, 14. may be united flanges, 8, of the frame. The flange, 14;,
directly to the adjusting screw, 10," without will prevent the tension screw, 10, from I being; displaced downwardly and the ball, 13, acting against the socket, 9, will prevent its being displaced upwardly.
It is obvious that various changes in size, shape and proportions of the various parts may be made and equivalent parts may be substituted for the spring pressure bar, saddle, movable tension blocks or frame without departing from the spirit or my invention.
