The transparent front 4' is covered upon the rear side so as to clearly outline three crossing arrows, the one being disposed vertically and the other two in overlapping horizontal position, the one being arrange in reverse position to the other, and the light and the compartments are so disposed as to clearly indicate one of the arrows at a time to the exclusion of the others and when the light is burning in either of the pointed compartments 9 or 10, the light in the corre- j spondingicompartments 13 and 14 is not burning so that such compartments are in darkness thereby insuring oneor the other points 9 or 10 being clearly defined, howdarkness so as pointing to the rlght. To signal a stop, the,
ever, when the point .9 is illuminated, the compartments 8, 10 and 14 are simultaneously lighted, thereby displaying the arrow pointing to the left, so as to indicate a left turn, and at this time, the compartments 13, 11 and 12 remaiirin darkness. lVhenthe signal is set to indicate a right turn, the compartments 10, 8,9 and 13 are lighted and the compartments 14 11 and 12 remain in to clearly outline the arrow compartments 11, 8 and 12 are illuminated, the remaining compartments 9, 13, 10 and 14 remaining in darkness so that the ver- I tically disposed arrow is clearly outlined.
The compartment 8 is located at the crossing of the three arrows and is illuminated "when either one of thethree arrows I is lighted.
Referring to Figure 11, the same shows a "diagram of circuits including the several I j eating with the slot 18-at a point intermedilights, said circuits being controlled by means of a multiple switch which is shown in detail in Figures 8, 9, and 10, and which comprises a base 15, a casing 16-and a cover 17 in which is formed a horizontal slot 18' and a vertical slot 19, the latter communiate its ends. A switch member 20 is connected with the base 15 by means of a universal joint 21 and is normally maintained in neutral position by-means of springs 21 attached to the base and exerting a lateral pressure upon the member 20. The switch member 20 projects through the cover 17 and is adapted to operate in the slot 18 and 19 and when moved to the end of the slot 19, the vertical arrow is displayed and when moved to theleft of the slot 18, the horizontal arrow pointing to the-left is displayed, thereby indicating a left turn and when moved to the right hand end of the slot 18 the horizontal arrow pointing to the right is displayed thereby indicating a right v hand turn. The switch member 20 is pro vided with contacts 22 which are adapted to coact with complemental contacts 28 at the sides of the casing 16 whereby to close the proper circuit indicated in a diagram Figure 11 to insure proper display of the required signal. The numeral 24-denotes a batteryor source ofelectric supply, and 25 the, several lead wires running to the electric lamp 7;
lVhat is claimed is A vehiclesignal, comprising a cruciform casing, a transparent plate closing the front of the casing and having portions renderedopaque, the transparent portions delineating signal devices disposed to cross, a smaller rectangular compartment arranged in the middle of the casing, partitions extending from the cornerwalls. of the smaller. compartment to the-inner corners of the cruci- -form casing forming'a. compartment in each Y JOSE E. ua.
