ATTACHMENT 'FOR ELECTRIC EXTENSION Application filed November 4, 1926. Serial No. 146,224.
The present invention relates to an attachment for an electrical extension line and has for its purpose to provide a non-detachable connection for an electrical extension line or cord to an electric source.
The common practice is to provide an attachment plug with an attachment socket and the presentinvention aims to provide a plug and socket which permits thelr attachment to a fuse containing mechanical parts that prevents the-plug and socket being separated'mechanically but allowing their sepa ration electrically. v
An important object of the invention lies in the provisionof a device of this nature which 1s simple in its construction, strong and durable, inexpensive to manufacture, thorou hly' reliable and eflicient in operation and .ot erwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
With the above and numerous other ob jects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and this arts as will be hereinafter more fully descrlbed and claimed.

Referring to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the numeral. 5 denotes a screw plug which is provided with spring contacts 6 and 7 This screw plug is adapted to be threaded into a wall socket or any other source of electrical current. The plug is formed with a hollow extension 8 having an annular rib or flange 9 on the end thereof. A cylinder or casing 10 of insulating material has an internal annular rib indicated at 11 to be disposed about the extension 8 and to abut the flange 9 so as to hold the casin assembled to the plug. A closure plug 0 insulating material is shown at 12 and is provided with an exterior flange lfl which is engaged with the end of the casing 10 by screws 15 or in any other suitable manner. This closure plug 12 is provided with a longitudinally extending bore 16 which is enlarged as at 17 so as to form the shoulder 18. A tube 19' extends through the bore 16 and terminates in aslide member 20 having contacts 21 and 22 therein disposed to engage contacts 6 and7 respectively. Leads 23 and 24 extend through the tube 19 and are engaged with the contacts 21 and 22 respectively.- The tube and the leads form 'the usual flexible extension cord. A spring 25 is disposed aboutthe cord 19 and impinges against the-shoulder 18 and against the slide 20 to normall hold the slide in an electrical engagin position such as is shown in Figure 1. twill be seen that if the electrical apparatus is pulled too far it will pull upon- ,the extension cord so as to move the parts in the non-electrical engaging position shown in Figure 2, thus warning the operator that he is at the limit of the extension cord.
With this attachment the user or operator of an electrical extension cord is not annoyed or compelled to' return to the attachment at the source of the'electrical circuit to replace the electrical sockets when the electrical circuit is broken.
It will be seen that the device is simple in its construction, yet may be made stron and durable and very inexpensive. The evice will prove thoroughly reliable and eflicient in its operation for obtaining the ends desired.
The present embodiment of the invention has been disclosed in detail merely by way of example since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description. It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages. 1
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is:
1. In a device of the class described, an attachment plug having free contacts, a casing engaged with the plug, a slide in the casing having spring contacts engageable with the first-mentioned contacts, spring means for normally urging the slide in an engageable position, and an extension cord attached to the slide so that when the extension cord is pulled the spring is compressed and the contacts are separated.
2. A device of the class described including, in combination, an electric attachment plug comprising a pair of spring contacts, a casing attached to the plug, a slide in the casing, spring contacts in the slide engageable with the first-mentioned spring contaots, a plug closure in the casing, said closure being provided with a longitudinally extending bore enlarged to form a shoulder, an extension cord leading through the bore and engaged with the .second mentioned ring contacts, and a spring disposed about t e extension cord impinging against the slide and the shoulder in the bore for normally urging the slide to an engaging position. 4

A device of the class described including an electrical attachment plug having a pair of spring contacts, an extension formed 15 on the plug,'a casing attached to the extension, a slide mounted .in the casing and having sprin contacts engageable' with the firstmentlone spring contacts, a plug closure in the casing, means for detachably engaging the plug closure on the casing, said closure being provided with a longltudinally ektendmg bore enlarged intermediate its ends to form a shoulder,'an extension cord slid- .able through the bore and having its leads engaged with the contacts in the slide, and
, a s ring disposed about the extension cord an impinged against the slide and the shoulder in the bore of the plug closure.
