C. D. HENRIQUES DISPENSING CONTAINER SEALING DEVICE inal Filed Dec. 21. 1921 INVENTOR CHQPMHNOHENRZ QES BY W14 sawmmu WITNESSES A TTOR NE YS Patented July 5,1927.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DISPENSING-CONTAINER SEALING DEVICE.
Original application filed'necember 21,- 1921, Serial No. 523,949. Divided and this application filed January 5, 1924, Serial No. 684,615. Renewed April 8, 1927.
This invention has relation to a sealing device for dispensing containers, the same being a divisional application of my pending application Serial No. 523,949.
The outstanding object of the present invention is to provide a means for preventing spurious refilling of a-container which after been broken, a closure plug is insertable in.
place to constitute a very tight and effective seal for the prevention of the spilling of the contents.
As a; still further object the invention resides in a sealing device of the character set forth which is extremely simple in its construction, inexpensive to manufacture and apply, and which is thoroughly reliable and highly eflicient in its purpose.
Withthe above recited and other objects in View, the invention resides in the novel construction set forth in the following specification, particularly pointed out in the appended claim and illustrated inihe accompanying drawings, it being understood that the rig-ht is reserved to embodiments other than those actually illustrated herein to the full extent indicated by the general meaning of the terms in which the claim is expressed.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a partial vertical sectional view through a container equipped with a sealing device constructed in accordance with the invention Fig. 2 is a collective "sectional view of the essential elements of the plug portion of the closure.
Fig. 3 is a similar view of the parts included in the neck, spout and sealing device.
Referring to the drawings by character's of reference, 10 designates a tubular receptacle having a covering wall 11 at its upper end which is formed with an aperture or outlet opening 12. The closure comprises an interiorly threaded neck piece or shell 13 which is provided with an annular inwardly projecting flange 14 at its lower end having a downwardly projecting annular boss 15 to the inner edge of said flange 14, the said .boss 15 proje-eting into the outlet opening 12 and said neck being soldered or otherwise permanently associated with the top wall 11 of the container body. A suitable pouring spout 16 is rotatably attached to the upper end of the neck piece, and a removable closure plug 17 is adapted to be threadedly engaged withinthe neck. 1
In order to provide a sealing means at the inner or lowerend of the neck piece which serves to prevent spurious refilling of the can after the original contents have been dispensed, an annular member 18 having an outturned horizontal flange 19 at its upper end and an inturned horizontal flange 20 at its lower end is soldered or otherwise permanently secured within the lower end of the neck piece, the flange 19 being imposed upon the offset portion 21 at the juncture of the flange 14 with the boss 15, while the annular body portion 18 of said member snugly fits within the boss 15. The lower inwardly projecting flange 20 is provided with an upturned tapered boss 22 which defines an outletopening and a seat for the sealing plug 23 which consists of an inverted tapered cup-shaped body having a marginal outwardly projecting annular flange 24 at its lower end. The sealing plug when seated in the boss or seat 22 effectually seals the outlet of the container 10 after the'original contentshave been introduced and can only be displaced by forcing of the same inwardly and allowing the same to drop into the container body from which it can never be removed. After the sealing plug has been initially displaced thev closure plug 17 is then employed. I claim:
In a sealing device for a container provided with an opening, a tubular member of sheet metal forming a discharge neck, said member being formed with a section at one end fitting into' said opening, a sheet metal member presenting a seat member formed with a tubular portion extending through said opening but within the section on said neck, a. tapering boss presenting a seat and a flange overlapping part of said section,
means for securin said flange to said neck, a sealing plu ormed with an annular flange, said sea ing plug c0acting with said seat for closing the same, said sealing plug 5 being positioned with the flange internal of said seat whereby the sealin plug can only be removed by being pushef inwardly, said neck being formed with threaded side walls and a removable threaded plug adapted to be screwed into said neck for closing the opening in said container when said sealing plug is removed.
