This invention relates to hole cleansingv devices for rock drills. y
It has for its object to provide improved hole cleansing means. A further object is to provide improved inea-ns for conducting hole cleansing fluid to a hollow drill steel. .A still further object is to provide improved hole cleansing fluid conducting means rwhich mechanism of the drilling device, a furtherl object being to provide improved means whereby when such a condition exists as just stated, the cleansing` fluid through said tube will be automatically shut off and the -operator thereby warned. It isfalso an object of my invention to provide suchl a mechanism so that the frontpart of the drilling motorV will not befloodeid with ,cleansing fluid when the conducting tube therefor does not assume its properk operative position.

I have shown my improved device for purnoses of illustration in connection with la usual drilling mechanism herein shown as"l of Vthe stoper typeV and which comprises a yusual percussive motor cylinderl having at cylinder 3 within which a usual feed piston` tis reciprocably mounted and actuated by pressure iiuid which is controlled byvi'any its rear end a head2 adapted to support; in' axial alinement with the cylinder` 1 a feedA rifle nut 9 being cari'ied by a chuck bushing 11 rotatably vmounted within a chuck housing 152 fixed upon the" forward portion of the head 8 and all of these membersbeing held in fixed relation by any suitable means such as side rods or lother means (not shown), The type of drilling` mechanism herein shown is also of the tappet type having a tappet 13 upon which the bar 7 strikes toractuate the hollow steel 111, said steel beingv heldin the memberk 11 by any suitable construction 15. i
In order to supply cleansing fluid to the hollow portion of the steel 14, I have shown a usual inner liquid cleansing tube 16 supported by and projecting forwardly'from the rear head 2 and terminating within the rear hollow portion of the steel 14. Mounted concentrically with the liquid cleansing tube 16 is a gaseous cleansing fluid tube 17 also supported by and projecting forwardly from the rear head2 but terminating within the tappet 13 somewhat short of its forward end. More specifically,the tubes 16 and 17 are mounted within the rear head 2 as by the construction shown in Fig.'2. 5. rlhe combination with a drilling mechanism having a motor and a hollow drill steel actuated thereby, of hole cleansing means cooperating with said steel comprisingv plurality otl cleansing fluid conducting elements, one of which is movable relative to the other and which is adapted to project into the hollow of the drill steel, means for yieldingly maintaining said movableelement normally in its most advanced position relative to said other fluid conducting element, and fluid controlling means actuated on relative movement between said elements.

The combination with a drilling mechanism having a cylinder and a hammer piston therein, a hollow steel, a yieldable cleansing fluid conducting tube extending through said piston and into said hollow portion of said steel at one end thereof, a bushing having a bore and tluid supply passages therein, Said tube at its other end terminating in said bore, and a sleeve adapted to shut olf flow through said passages and actuated by movement of said tube.
7. The combination with a drilling mechanism adapted to operate upon a drill steel and including a hammer element and a striking block for transmitting blows to a steel,
yoit hole cleansing mechanism including a tluid conducting tubeextending thro ugh the striking block and into position to enter a hollow steel and yiel-dable rearwardly on engagement by a steel, fluid supply means for said tube, and means for controlling said fluid supply actuated "upon predetermined relative movement between said tube and striking block.
8. The combination witha drilling mechanism having a steel, of hole cleansing mechanism including inner and outer relatively movable fluid conducting tubes, fluidsupply means therefor, andL means for controlling said AHuid supply actuated upon relative movement between said tubes.
