The principal object olf niy invention resides in the provision of a fuel and air distributing 'valve no constructed that theilr coininfr air to the carburetor chamber Will be under a high Velocity.

Leading troni the lioat chamber is the fuel conducting conduit 8, extending upwardly at an angle thereto into the side Wall of the air passage 9 the Wall of said air passage having a suitable chamber l 'formed on one side and normally closed by the threaded closure ll and adapted to receive the tuel passing through the chamber thereto. 'lransversely `mounted Within the passage 9 is the rotatable fuel distributing and air controlling valve `l2 which is preterably ot the lnitterflyt-yp.` The valve is fornied `with flanged portions of annular formation as indicated by the reference character is; to position the Valve in the passage 9 to prevent a lateral movement thereof during theV opening' and closing ot' the valve and extendingbeyond the face of the right hand flange is a hub 13 tor a purpose which will later appear. One end portionrests against its seat l in the sidewall ol'I the passage, and the other abuts against the hub ot the closure plate 16 disposed over the opening in the passage through which the "valve is inserted and held in position by the screws li'. A tubular bore 18 is formed centrally ol the valve, the valve also being fornied with a transverse bore 19 into which is positioned a Venturi 20 hav# ing the usual restricted intermediate p0rtion 2l and the gradually flaring and Twidened end portions 22. This venturi is preferably ot an appreciable length, inter secting the transfer bore 18 in the valve through which 'luel is introduced from the chamber 1.0, the venturi having a plurality of fuel nozzles 23 located therearound, being ied by gasolcue or other fuel entering a circumferential chamber 2li surrounding the feed jets and 'fed through the transverse opening i8, it being understood that fuel is admitted to the chamber l() through the supply 8 leading troni the float chamber.
The valve at its side opposite the bore 18 is also provided with a bore 25 through which the needle vulve 26 passes, the tunetion ot which to control the passage of Vtuel through the transverse feeding bore 18 and to vary and regulate the fuel that is discharged through the feeding jets 23 of the venturi. This valve is normally maintained in an open position by the action of the spring E27 surrounding the same and at los Utl

one end pressing upon the hub of the butterfly valve, while the other end engages a shoulder portion 28 of the needle Valve itself.
As a means for operating this needleY valve, a construction disclosed in my patent heretofore referred to is preferably7 eni ployed and the saine may be briefly recited as consisting of a shiftable lever Qllharing a socket portion 30 therein receiving the end of the needle valve, the lever at one end bearing against an adjustable guide 3l supported upon the ineinber 32, while the other end of thelerer engages a fulcruni which may be adjustable so as to Vary the throw of the needle valve upon a shifting of the lever in the nranner disclosed in my Patent No. 13260,:394. A `valve turning nieniber 34 .is detaehably secured to the hub 12:5 of the valve 12 andis formed in its outer face `with a guide 35 into which the lever is received so that upon a turning of this member 34 the lever islikewise shifted, riding over the guide 3l and fulcruin soy as to ope Iate the needle `valve and permit-*the admission of fuel to the venturi. The valve turning ineniber is formed with an extension 36 which is connected with an operating link 23T extending upwardly for attachment to the throttle valve operating nieans to be now described. p
The enlarged lportion 3 of the passage 9 is controlled vby a throttle valve 38 extending thereacross and mounted on the shaft 39 for an oscillating` movement, the shaft at its outer end being secured to a channeled member el() to which the operating` link 3T is pivotally attached. lt will, therefore, be apparent that upon the operation of the throttle valve, which is controlled by the arinf l1 the Valve turning member lll is likewise rotated, causing an oscillating movement to be imparted tothe fuel and air controlling butterfly valve disposed within the passage 9, and also a shifting of the fuel valve 26. `-When the throttle valve 3S is slightly shifted upon the starting of an engine, the needle valve is, of course, opened a slight extent to permit a flow of fuel q through the transverse fuel feeding passage in the fuel valve 121 this fuel spraying through the jet openings in the venturi. while the miction of the engine causes a rapid flou' of air through the venturi Q0 instantly1 bringing about an atoniizing of the fuel issuing thereto through the discharge nozzles which atoznized fuel. then passes on to the engine cylinders. As the throttle valve is further opened, it likewise opens `the air and fuel distributing valve 1Q ca using a wider opening of the needle valve cifontrolling the fuel supply,air, however, rushing through the venturi Qt) to serre in assisting inatoinizing the issuing fuel frein the spray S28, While :ulditional air is intro duced to interinix with this fuel around the sides of the 'valve 152,.
