UNITED STA m SCHULZ, OF BAR-HEN, GERMANY.
SHEET-[BILL CASING FOB PHOTOGRAPHIC Fm Application fled April lli, 1828, Serial No.
My invention relates to a multipartite sheet-metal casing for photogra hic films, more especially so-called film pac s, and the characteristic feature of this casing, in contradistinction to the known film packs of sheet-metal, resides therein that it comprises only three sheet-metal members, viz, a boxshaped. back member, amid-member, and a together lightroof when it is in its closing position. Eac of said three members consists of only one piece which is provided with such additional members as are necessary to connect the main members and to prevent them from being shifted relatively to each other.
The invention is illustrated dia rammatically and by way of example in t e accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front-view of the improved sheet-metal casing for photographic films; Figure 2 is a plan thereof, F i urev 3 a vertical section therethrough, an Figure 4 shows the top portion of Fig. 3,. drawn to an enlarged scale. v On the drawin 4-denotes the boil-shaped back member,5 t e mid-member, and 6 the closing member or ca each of which is punched or pressed 0 one piece of sheetmetal. The mid-member is provided at its upper rim with eyes8 bent outwardly to the rear surface thereof, and the inner sur face of the box 4 is provided with hooks 7, engaging the eyes 8 when the box is in its closing position, whereby the mid-member is held fast securely without preventing it from being movablein the necessary manner in the composed pack. To the upper rim of the inner side of the box member 4a strip 9 of plush is attached, and a corresponding "plush-strip 10 is attached tothe cl cap 6, the two strips being fastened by l presed When the cap is in its closing position, the upper rims oi the two plush 'stri )slie flush and light-proof with respect the casing; The piece of sheet-metal pressed "f outof'the cap and serving for holding fast the lush strip 10 forms also an abutment mem er 11 which, bears upon' the web of the eye '8, as shown in Fig. 3, whereby the 1 width of the gapbetween the upper and the loweredge or rim'of the mid-member and .the 0PP0site Porti n is determined and this 102,243, and in Germany February 2, 1928.
member is securely prevented from getting disengaged from the hooks 7 when-t 'e cap is In its proper position on the casing.
7 There may be provided, however, abutment lugs 12 also on the opposite side of' paste-board pressing flap (not shown), upon the non-exposed films, secondly, with cutting-outs of any desired shape, the'purpose of which is to reduce the weight of the implement. The lower rim of the mid-member 5 is bent round tubularly, as at 14, F 3, and this tubular portion and a bent insertion 15 of paste-board or the like form together a guide-way for the film when being pulled through from one side of the casing to the other side, and protect the respective film from damage. 7
It is obvious that the new constructional form of the casing is greatly simplified relatively to the known film-packs, concerning not only the finished case, but also the manufacture of the same. Thereare by far less pieces, less manufacturing phases, and simpler tools can be used. It is valso evident that assembling the parts forming the easing, taking this latter to pieces, if required,
filling the finished casing, and the like, can
be effected without any bendingof sheet- .metal hooks or sheet-metal pivots or other connecting or closing means, also without the use of: an adhesive and without cutting work, whereby the further advantage. is attained that the casing can be filled with from the hooks 7, the hook-and-eye connection serving then at the same time as an abutment 'for the exposed films conveyed from one side of the casingto the other side thereofso that the exposed films are re-V vvented from being'drawn the utmen't place. j a a The new constructional form of the film casing as described-and shown by way .of
example can be used in connection with films of any'size, the advantages stated being attained in every case.
I claim:
1. A multipartite sheet-metal casing for photographic films and film-packs, compris-' ing, in combination, a back-member (4), a.
-mid-member (5), and a closing cap (6),
said three parts constituting the film casing proper, substantially as setforth. 2. A multipartite sheet-metal casing for photographic films and film-packs, comprising, in combination, a back member (4), a
' photographic films and film-packs, comprising, in combination, a back member (4), a
* midemember (5),,a closing cap (6), and
light-proof tightening strips (9, 10) of a soft material'attached on one side to the sheetmetal portions connecting said back member and said mid-member, and on the other side to that sheet-metal portion of the .cap by which this latter is supported, substantially as described.
4. A. multipartite sheet-metal casing for photographic films and film-packs, comPrising, in combination, a back member (4), a mid-member (5), a closing cap (6), and an abutment lug (11) carried by saidca and bearing upon said mid-member, an said lug being adapted to prevent this latter from I beinlg shifted upwardly, substantially as set fort 1.
5. A multipartite sheet-metal casing for photographic films and film-packs, compris ing, in combination, a back member (4)., a mid-member (5), anda closing cap (6), the lower rim of said mid-member being so bent as to form the known tubular guide member (14) separated from the bottom of the casing by a conveying gap, and a curved guide member (15) inserted into said gap and being held fast therein by pressure, sub-' stantially as set forth.
In witness whereof my hand.
