This invention relates to an ,anchoring device, and particularly to av construction adapted to be supported by a concrete or liable to be displacedA in use or lost when rremoved to release the clamping jaws.
We overcome such objections by the provision oiy a unitaryV structure having a support for the member to be anchored and means by which the jaws may beadjusted toward and from each other to accommodate materially diiierent widths of the base of said. member with which the jaws cooperate in their clamping action. TVe .also provide clamping means mounted upon one jaw and acting upon a lever from the opposite jaw by which a simultaneous rotative clamping action of the jaws is effected, rsuch means being disposedA at opposite sides of the sup ported member and readily accessible for tightening or adjusting the clamping jaws which frequently becomes necessary lwhen such member is subjected to vibration as in the case of a rail fastener.
The invention has for an object to provide a novel and improved construction including` a. support for the member to be anchored. with opposite jaws engaging the base of said member, and means for adjusting the ulcrums of said jaws toward and from each other and effecting a simultaneousv clamping action thereof.
Another object of the invention is to provide a new construction of clamping jaws having overlapping lever ends with a threaded lug upon each jaw adj acent its axis of rotation adapted to carry a clamping device mounted to engage the lever from the opposite jaw.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved form of support for the anchoring device comprising a. casing having a toothed under face disposed to cooperate with a clamping jaw having a Application filed December .3, 1926. Serial No. 15255.35
toothed pivot adjustably engaging said face anda free lever end for cooperative action with -a clamping device.v
The invention also has for an object to provide `a novel construction of casing forv cooperation Awith the anchoring device and compr ing complemental membershaving .inwardl' projecting flanges adapted-to Jform a bearing tor clamping jaws and exterior ribs disposed to prevent movement ofthe casing within the concrete or otherniaterial vin which it is embedded. to form a tirm support. f
@ther and urthervobje'cts and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter set Aforth and the novel features thereof defined by the appended claims. I`
Tn the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a longitudinal Section on the i" line 1-1 of Figure 2;
Figure i2 1s a top plan:

Figure 5 is a side elevation of the opposite ja j Like numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several figures ot' the drawing. v .l
The invention is designed `for application to bars or beams in building construction forthe purpose of anchoring the same to a proper base and also for application as a rail fastener, while if reversed. in position may be used as a hanger for suspending a beam or rail member. Y n
In the form of the invention shown the boX or casing l() is preferably elongated and provided with transverse ribs 11 adapted to be seated in the concrete or similar base in which the casing is embedded. This casing comprises opposite members joined at a central line and each provided with an inwardly. y extending flange 12 having upon its under face teeth or similar projections 13 adapted to form a support for the adjustable mounting of the clamping jaws to be hereinafter described. `These flanges extend longitudinally of the casing and the toothed portions 13 are oit such extent as to provide for an adjustment for materially different widths of the base 14 of the beam or rail 15 to be supported and anchored in position. v
The jaws 16 are formed with a hoolrportion at their 'engaging ends and with a pivot or fulcrum 17 provided with teeth or prosaid flanges and having toothed surfaces adjacent their fulcrums, a horizontally disposed overlapping lever extended from each lulcrum, and a. lug carrying a clamping device adjacent the ulcrum ol cach jaw and bearing upon the free end of the lever from the opposite jaw.
9. A jaw member tor an anchoring device having at opposite sides of the jaw toothed bearing faces, a lug extended from said jaw, and a lever offset from the center of the jaw and extended laterally therefrom.
"10. In an anchoringr device, a casing having .its body increasing downwardly in width and provided with transverse retaining ribs, inwardly projecting flanges at one face of said casing forming a support, and spaced clamping means disposed to engage an object resting upon said flanges.
ll. In an anchoring device, a casing comprising complemental members having at their meeting edges inwardly projecting flanges toothed upon their under faces, spaced clamping jaws having an adjustable bearing upon said toothed faces and disposed intermediate of said flanges, and
means for simultaneously actuating said jaws.
l2. In an anchoring device, a fixed casing having a support for a member to be anchored, and opposite clamping jaws Vhaving ulcrums adjustable upon said support toward and from each other to provide for clamping engagement with portions of inembers of materially different width.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures.
