JAMES MOORE, OF ELIZABETHTOWN, NEW JERSEY.
ROTARY STEAM-ENGINE.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 1,628, dated June 10, 1840.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES MOORE, of Elizabethtown, Essex county, State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Drummonds Rotary Steam- Engine, which is described as follows, reference being had to the annexed drawings of the same, making part of this specification.
Figure 1 is an horizontal section showing the interior of the cylinder. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the engine. l
The engine, generally is made like Drummonds.
The improvement consists in arranging a thin metallic ring or rim A upon the circular curb B inside the cylinder and securing the same by a row of screws D around the inner periphery of said rim while the outer circumference springs from the curb toward and against the opposite plate forming the cylinder and thus closes the space between the two plates, through which the arm passes to which the-piston E is fastened.

means of a roller F attached `to the arm G which passes over the aforesaid spring plate or packin and bears it down as the arm moves roun What I claim as my invention and which I desire to secure by Letters Patent consists in The arrangement of the circular spring plate inside the cylinder for closing the joint between the plates formingV said` cylinder to prevent the escapeof the steam in combination with the roller on the arm for contracting said plate in order to `allow the arm to pass round as before described.
