Application filed September geous features and provide an efficient, practical and inexpensive system of metal lath attachment to sectional furring and one in which unskilled workmen may readily and expeditiously apply metal lath to ceiling supporting furring. A further object resides in the provision of a novel form of fur-ring for elfecting the results sought by said leading object. Other and further objects not at this time appearing will be described hereinafter.
The invention consists of the novel construction hereinafter described and finally claimed.
The nature, characteristic features and scope of the invention will be more fully understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, and in which:
Fig. 1, is a view, principally in section illustrating a ceiling structure embodying the invention.
Fig. 2, is a fragmentary view in section of certain of the parts shown in Fig. 1, and
Fig. 3, is a View in plan of certain of the parts shown in Fig. 1.
For the purpose of illustrating my invention I have shown in the accompanying drawings one form thereof which is at pres ent preferred by me, since the same has been found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, although it is to be understood that the various instrumentalities of which my invention consists can be variously arranged and organized and that my invention is not limited to the precise arrangement and organization of the instrumentalities as herein shown and described.

This furring comprises a plurality of sections of channel-steel the ends of which may be and as shown are shaped for interlocking relation and the faces of which have struck out therefrom metal-lath supporting tongues, said ends and tongues being provided at the time of making the furring. The furring sections form a continuous member for the whole length of the ceiling.
The numeral 1 designates the supporting structure which may be any of the conventional types although I prefer to employ bar-joist, To these bar-joists I wire the furring 2. One end of each section of fur.-
ring, which is of U-shaped cross-section, is
shaped to provide a penetrating portion 3 and the opposite end is provided with a receiving portion 4. These portions are formed at the time of making the furring by squeezing the ends to desired configuration. The side walls of these portions 3 and lare late ally aperturecl at 5 so that when the ends of the sections of furring are cooperatively fitted together with the apertures 5 in register, cotter pins 6, or the like 30 may be employed to interlock the sections with respect to one another. The wires for securing the furring to place are designated 7. The under face of each section of furring has stamped therefrom a plurality of spaced tongues each bent downwardly at 9 and extended in a horizontal manner at 10 to provide a series of metal-lath supports. The metal-lath 11 I prefer to employ is of the type termed permanent steel forms and is provided With a plu 'ality of loops 12. By causing each separate furring section to engage with these loops prior to positioning said metal lath with respect to said joists an BXPGfiltlOUS, simple and efiective attachment 9 may be secured by unskilled workmen which is an important item in this class of work under discussion. Concrete 13 is then applied as usual.
It will now be apparent that I have de vised a novel and useful construction which embodies the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description and while I have in the present instance shown and described the preferred embodiment thereof which has been found in practice to give satisfactory vand reliable results, it is to be understood that the same is susceptible of modification in various particulars without 1 departing from the spirit or scope of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
\Vhat I claim is:
1. In a ceiling construction of the character stated, a supporting structure, furring having adjacent ends fitted together and suspended from said supporting structure, the furring consisting of a plurality of sections to form a continuous member for the Whole length of the ceiling, said furring being provided with metal-lath supporting clips, and metal lath arranged beneath said furring and engaged by said clips.
2. In a ceiling construction of the character stated, a supporting structure, furring having adjacent ends fitted together and suspended from said supporting structure, the fur-ring consisting of a plurality of sections to form a continuous member for the Whole length of the ceiling, said turring being provided with metal-lath supporting clips, pins passing laterally through said furring ends, and metal-lath arranged beneath said furring and engaged by said clips.
3. In a ceiling construction of the character stated, a supporting structure, turring of U-shaped cross-section suspended from said supporting structure, the furring consisting of a plurality of sections to form a continuous member for the Whole length of the ceiling, the furring bottom having struck out therefrom metal-lath supporting clips and the adjacent ends of said furring being fitted one within the other, pins extended laterally through said tilted ends and metal-lath arranged beneath the furring and supported by said clips.
