In carrying out the invention, there is provided a tankl comprising a shell 2 and heads 3 and 4.l The heads 3 and 4 are set inwardly from the ends of the shell 2, so that the tank 1 may be placed readily on a support of any desired kind, the tank being capable of end for end reversal. The head carries a ring 6 provided with a flange 7. The head 3 is supplied 0n each side of the ring 6 with hook bearings 8.

Then, if the handle 16 be swung downwardly, into the position of Figure 1, the cam 17 on thel shaft 15 will compress the lid 12 on the `gasket 11 and effect an hermetic closure, the hook bearings 8 being of less height than the bear ings 14 on the lid 12, and the shaft 15 having a slight movement in the bearings 14 in a direction parallel to the axis of the tank 1. Owing to the fact that the drain cock 23 is spaced from the inner end of the receptacle 9, longitudinally of the tank '1, it will be practically impossible to place enough liquid in the tank to enter the receptaele 9 and saturate the Contents thereof, when the tank stands in the position shown in Figure il, provided that the valve or cock Q3 'is opened.
