ACTUATENG DEVOE FOR- \TIBE-USH-RELEASE CAMERAS.
Application led September 7, 1926.
My invention relates to vactuating devices for Wire push release cameras. My object in general is to provide a device which can be tripped by a Wild animal, bird or reptile I and when tripped will actuate the push Wire of a camera to operate the shutter. Specific objects are to provide means for setting the device, for releasing the setting means, for holding liash light power, for igniting the 10 flash light powder, and for holding the push Wire cable of a camera in the proper position to be acted upon by the actuating members of the device. @ther objects will appear as the description progresses.
Figure 1 represents a plan view of the device; Fig. 2, a side elevation of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3, an enlarged fragmentary cross sectional elevation of the device.
Although I show the preferred embodi- 20 ment of my invention, I do not thereby limit myself to the precise details of construction shown, but wish it-understood that Within the scope of What hereinafter is claimed, various modifications and changes in the construction may be made Without departing from the spirit of the invention.
A sheet metal clip 1 is mounted on the front portion of a cylinder@ and supports a platform A. A box 3 is mounted on the platform A and is provided with a lug l to which a trigger 5 is pivoted. A lid 6 is connected to the box 3 by the hinge '7 and is provided With a latch 9 engaging the trigger' 5 at the front, and With an arm B at the rear.
A shaft 10 is mounted in vertical lugs 11 and 12 on theplatform A and carries a trigger y13and an arm 14. 4A spring 15 is Wound about the shaft 10 and connected to the arm 14: to hold it back. A latch 16 provided with a trigger arm C is pivoted on the lug 12 and is held in normal position by an open spring 17. A Wheel 18, having a. serrated periphery, is rigidly mounted on the shaft 10 in alignment with a conduit D communicating with the box 3. A thimble 19 is secured to the underside of the platform A and contains a plunger 20 normally held in engagement with the serrated periphery of the Wheel 13 by an open spring 21, the spring being held in position by a cap 2:2. A main piston rod 24 carries a piston 25 and an open spring 26 Within the cylinder 2 and extends through the rear end of said Serial No. 133,931.
cylinder. A clip 9.7 is mounted on the rear end of the main piston rod 24 and a longitudinally disposed latch bar 23 is pivoted to the clip 27. A clip 29 is mounted on the rear portion of the cylinder 2 and is provided With vertically disposed extensions 30 to which a longitudinally disposed trigger 31 is pivoted by a pivot 32.
A secondary piston rod 33 is disposed in the forward port-ion of the cylinder 2 and extends through the front end. A piston 34.- and an open cushion spring 35 is mounted on the piston rot 33 Within the cylinder 2 and an L-shaped guide plate 36 is mounted on the front end of said secondary piston rod. A clip 37 is mounted on the front end of the cylinder 2 and is adapted to hold the end of the camera cable 33 containing the push Wire 39.
The main piston rod 2st is pulled back until the latch 23 engages the pivot 32 and presses down the short arm of the trigger 31. A string or Wire Ll() is attached to a bait al1. Flash light poWde-r is deposited in the box 3 and the lid 6 is closed so that the latch 9 engages the trigger The lever arm 14 is swung forward until the trigger arm 13 engages the latch 16. rlhe device and camera are now left alone as long as desired or until an animal, bird or reptile disturbs the bait 41. Then the bait is disturbed the pull on the string l() causes the trigger 31 to push the latch 23` upward Which releases the latch 23 so that the spring 26 drives the piston 25 forward. The compression of the air ahead of the piston 25 forces the piston 34- forvvard and moves the plate 36 against the Wire 39 and opens the camera shutter. As the plate 36 moves the Wire 39 it also strilres the trigger 5 and releases the latch 9 which permits the lid 6 to fly open due to the spring hinge 7 As the lid 6 flies open the arm B strikes the trigger 13 and releases the latch 16 and permits the spring 15 to revolve the shaft 10 rearward. This causes the serrated periphery of the wheel 13 to rub against the plunger 2O and produce sparks which ignite the flash light powder in the conduit D and box 3. The spring 35 pushes the piston 3l back as the air behind it leaks out and permits the wire 39 to return to normal position thereby permitting the camera shutter to close.
The box 3 may be made to telescope so that in the event that a larger quantity of powder is desired than the box normally holds, the side telescoping members T may be provided to be pulled out to increase the capacity of the box.
rlhe plunger 2O is made ot the usual material used in lighting devices ot this charaeter such as gas lighters.
