Filed Sept. 2'7. 1926 Patented Feb. 22, 1927.
EDUARD UHTHOFF, OF BERLIN-CHARLOTTENBURG, GERMANY.
TYPE-LINE SETTING AND CASTING MACHINE.
Application filed September 27, 1926, Serial No. 138,060, and in Germany May 5, 1926.
The invention relates to improvements in type line setting and casting machines of the kind in which matrix bars are moved on endless guiding wires and has for its object the provision of an improved feeding mech anism to move the matrix bars very rapidly along horizontal distances of the guiding wires.
A constructional example is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a lateral elevation with an ejector in the contracted position;
Figure 2 is a side elevation with'the ejector extended; and
Figure 3 is an end elevation.
The invention is described in connection with the distributing mechanism forming the object of my patent application Ser. No. 7
112,134 filed May 27th, 1926.
The frame Z as described in this application and the wires 6 carried by this frame and carrying the matrix bars 79 are shown in dotted lines in Figure 2. The matrix bars must be quickly transferred from the wires Z) to the wires a leading to the magazine.
To this end an ejector is disposed on the framework 0 of the machine and is constituted by a vertical bar 8 carrying the pushers or fingers 3 (and moving in horizontal guides 1, 2) and actuating links 4, 5, 6, 7 pivoted as lazy tongs. The upper end of the link 5 is attached to a fixed pivot point 8 on the framework 0 of the machine while the 'ferred to the wires a.
After the frame Z has reached the position of Figure 2. the pivot point connecting the links 5 and 7 and therefore the whole linkwork together with the bar 3 are moved forward with the aid of the driving shaft of the machine, of a double-armed lever 11 and of the links 12 and 13, so that the'set of matrix bars hanging on the wires 7) is trans- Immediately after, the bar 3 is moved backwards and the frame Z is lowered. 4
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is 1. In a type line setting and casting machine matrices guided on wires, a movable bar carrying matrix pushers, guides for said bar and operating links of the kind of lazyv tongs moving the bar forward and backward.
2. In a type line setting and casting machine matrices guided on wires, a movable frame carrying corresponding guiding wires, guides on said frame, a movable bar carrying matrix pushers and operating links of the kind of lazy tongs moving the bar throughthe frame forward and backward.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
EDUARD UHTHOFF.
