This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a hanger.
One object of the invention is to provide a hanger, of the character described specially designed for supporting a conductor, and more particularly designed'for supportmg a trolley wire from the messenger wire.
Another object of the invention is to provide a hanger which is flexible, or yieldable so as to permit the trolley wire to be elevated, relative to the messenger wire, without in ury to the latter, or to the hanger. A further feature of the invention rcsides in the provision of a hanger so constructed and attached to supporting messenger wire and the trolley wire, that the adjacent hangers will hold the parted ends of either wire, in case of breakage, of either wire, so that said parted ends may be readily reunited. 3
, In the equipment of electric railways the messenger wire, or supporting wire for the trolley wire, is strung from pole to pole over the track and sags between the supporting poles and the trolley wire is suspended from it byhangersa It is desirable that the trolley wire be heldagainst sagging, so that it .rlll be comparatively straightand thehangers midway between the poles are shorter than those nearer the poles, the relative length of the, hangers being such that the trolley wire will be held, horizontal and in position not to sag. As the trolley wheel passes along underneath the trolley wire this wire will be some- 7 due to the electric current passing from the trolley wire along the hanger to the Ines-' It is the chief object of this invention to provide a flexible, or yieldable type of hanger which will support the trolley wire, and permit the said movement thereof without injury to the supporting, or messenger wire.

this invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction, operation and arrangement of parts an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 shows an edge view of the hanger showing the wires in section.
Figure 2 shows a side view thereof, and Figure 3 shows a vertical sectional view of the trolley wire clamp.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, wherein like numerals of refer ence designate similar parts in each of the figures, the numeral 1 designates a supporting wire commonly known as the messenger wire, and the numeral 2 designates the trolley'wire.
The messenger wire 1 is supported on poles, set a distance apart along the railway tra'cln'in theusual way. It is clear that this messenger wire will sag, somewhat, between, the poles. This wire is provided to support the trolley wire 2 i from by the hangers. The trolley wire should be held against sagging so far as, possible, and for that reason the hangers nearthe supporting poles, will be somewhat longer than those further away from said poles, the hangers varying in length, as required, to maintain the trolley wire as nearly straight as possible, but being otherwise similar. I Each hanger includes two wire clamps connected by links, or other flexible, or yieldable connection. As shown, and as a preferred construction, the messenger wire clamp 8 consists of an open ring 4: which surrounds the messenger wire 1 and which is formed with a depending eye 6, and opposite the eye the clamp has the outwardly turned, coinciding ends 7 7 adapted to receive the clamp bolt 8, which passes through said ends and is held in place by the nut 8. The ring 4 will usually be clamped tightly on the messenger wire but in some cases it may be found necessary to give it a loose fit thereon to permit adjustment. i The trolley wire clamp, 9, may be of any form desired. A preferred form consists of two jaws 10, 10. These jaws are clamped together by a clamp bolt 11, which passes through them and is held in place by a clamp nut 12. As the trolley wheel passer: along the trolley wire underneath the hangers it will slightly ele'ate said trolley wire and the flexible connection between the wire clamps 3 and 9 will permit this without injury to the messenger wire.
