Description

T. EINARSON CLOTHESPIN Filed June 26. 1925 Patented Feb. 22, 1927.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CLOTHESPIN.
Application filed. June 26, 1925.
This invention relates to improvements in clothes pins.
The object of this invention is to provide a practical clothes pin made of a single piece of non-corrosive wire or a piece of steel wire treated with cadmium or some other rust resisting substance.
Another object is to construct such a clothes pin in a relatively simple manner as described in the accompanying drawing and specification.
In the drawing- Figure 1 is a plan View of a clothes pin designed in accordance with my invention;
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the clothes pin;
Figure 3 is a plan View of an operation in making the clothes pin, showing a piece of wire partially bent and twisted in its media] portion; V
Figure 4; is a. detail of an operation showing one loop of the clothes pin shown in Figure 3 passed through the opposite loop in forming the twisted portion into a spring loop.
'lhe invention is carried out by ine-ans of a.- piece of non-corrosive wire or a piece of steel wire which is treated with cadmium or some similar rust resisting substance. The said wire 1 is formed into the shape of an 8, and has its ends 2 of such a length so as to lap in its media] portion "in order to permit twisting the same into each other as shown at 3 and thus forming loops 1 and 5 as shown in Figure 3. The loop 4; is slightly twisted toward the vertical center of the loop 5 so as to permit passing the said loop 4 through the loop 5 in order to form a spring loop (3 as shown in Figures 1 and 4.
Serial No. 39,664.
After they said spring loop 6 has been formed, the loops 4 and 5 are so bent as to bear against each other and thus form a clamping means as shown in Figure 1; the medial portions of the loops are curved towards each other as at 7; the terminal portions of the loops are bent so as to be adapted to lie in engagement with each other as at 8; the spring tension of the loop 6 thus acts to cause the said terminal portions 8 to act as a clamping means as shown in Figure 1.
Vhile I have herein described a certain specific manner and method of constructing and assembling the elements of my invention. it is understood that I may vary from the same in minor details not departing from the spirit of my invention, so as best to constructa practical device for the purpose ing slightly twisted toward the Vertical een- A ter of the other loop so astopermit passing the one loop through the other: the one loop' being then further bent around the other so as to form the said medial portion of the said wire into a spring loop: the medial portions of the loops being then curved. towards each other and the terminal portions thereof being adapted to lie in engagement with each other so as to form a clamping means.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
THORVARDUR EINARSON.
