This invention relates to mop heagp and the primary object is to provide an improved form of hinge for connecting the mop handle to the head and providing a reinforcing or expansion member for the sides of the mop head frame so that liability of the side bars of the mop head frame being bent inwardly when the operator taps the head against an object to dislodge the dust from the mop fabric will be eliminated.
.The novel construction of my invention will be apparent by reference to the following description in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of amop head constructed in accordance with my invention,

The mop head is shown as comprising a closed loop formed by bending a strand 1 of wire intermediate its ends to provide an eye 2, bending the strand again to provide the toe 3 of the loop, bending the strand to form another eye 4 diametrically opposite the eye portion 2, and bending the other end of the strand to provide a wider portion or heel 5 of the frame, the end terminating in an eye portion 6 in line with the eye portions 2 and 4:. Through these eyes is introduced a bolt or pintle 7' which passes through the eyes 8 and 9 on the bail 10 fastened to the handle 11 and secured by the ring 12 so that when the cross bar 13 is in the opening 1 1 the side bars of the bail will be held in rigid engagement with the handle 11. Be tween the eyes 8 and 9 is a coil expansion spring 15 which surrounds the bolt or pintle 7 and which exerts enough pressure against the eyes 8 and 9 tohold the eyes 8 and 9 in frictional contact with the'eyes 2 and 6 so that the bail may hinge on the pintle or bolt 7 but be in frictional engagement with the main frame of the head, anda very im-- portant feature of my invention isv that the 46 spring is strong enough to resist bending of either of the side bars 16 and 17 of the frame in the event that the operator knocks the edge of the side frame, that is one of the bars, against a window sill or other object to free the swatch from accumulations.
It will be apparent that liability of the frame becoming distorted byv pressure or knocks against the side bars will be eliminated because the expansible element illustrated as the spring 15 will resist tendency of the bars 16 and 17 to move one toward the other. V
What I claim and desire t ers-Patent is i I 1. In combination,- a mop head frame 7 formed of an elongated Wire looprbent to form aligning eyes intermediate itsends, a bolt passing through the eyes, a handle connection having eyes about the bolt, and an expansible spring around the bolt, the opposite ends of which bear against the eyes on the handle connection.
2. In combination, a mop head frame, comprising a strand of wire bent intermediate its ends to provide aligning eyes a bolt passing through the eyes, a handle securing means carried by the bolt having said bars engaging said bolt, and means onthe bolt between said side bars for preventinginward E75 movement of the side bars.
3. In combination, a mop head frame, aligning eyes carried bythe frame, a bolt passing through the eyes, a handle bail carried by the bolt, and a coil spring on the bolt 80 between the ends of the bail, the ends of the I springcontacting with the end of the bail to force the same against said eyes. i
