My invention relates to dry material feeding machines and more particularly to those adapted for use in municipal water plants, laundries or elsewhere, for 'delivering meas urcd quantities of lime or other powdered material to a raw water supply, either still or flowing, to soften or otherwise treat the water; the present inventlon constltutmg an improvement on the machine forwhich Letprovements, parts being broken away for;

Assuming the parts to be constructed and assembled as described, operation is as follows The frame is arranged over the raw water supply so that the material dropping onto the table 29 may be forced from the platform into the water. The dry material is filled into the bin 6 part of it dropping through the port onto the table 29, where it stacks but does not escape into the water.
' The'motor is then operated, driving the vertical shaft through the gear reduction; rotation of the shaft reciprocating the agitator 33 and arm 23 to effect a continuous flow of material through the outlet port onto the table. Simultaneously with the operation of the agitators, the arm 26 is moved over the table, scraping measured quantities of powdered material off the table andinto the water, this operation continuing until the powdered material has been exhausted fromthe bin.
It is apparent that with this arrangement, packing of the material within the bin is prevented and a measured delivery of the material vto the water is effected.
Measurement of delivery of material from the table may be regulated by extension of, the arm 26 over the table, and if more material than can be delivered with a single scraper arm 26 is desired, a longer arm may be employed to extend from both sides of the shaft 13, so that a scraping action occurs at each half revolution of the shaft; or additional arms may be provided.
While I have shown and described specific mechanical elements, variations may be made in the specific structure and the machine may be employed for uses other than the softening or other treatment of water if desired.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters-PLatent is:
1. A machine of the character described, comprising a bin having an opening in the bottom thereof, a stationary shelf-like member mounted exteriorly of said bin and below said opening adapted to receive material from said bin through said opening, a rotatable shaft, and an arm extending laterally outwardly from said shaft and rotating therewith, said armsweeping over said shelf-like member to move material over the edge thereof.
2. A machine of the characterdescribed, comprising a bin having an opening in the bottom thereof, a stationary shelf-like member mounted exteriorly of said bin and below said opening adapted to receive material from said bin through said opening, a rotatable; shaft, and an arm extending outwardly from said shaft and rotating therewith, said arm sweeping over said shelflike member to move material over the edge thereof, saidarm being adjustable relative to said shelf-like member to regulate the amount of material moved oft said shelf: like member with each sweeping movement thereof. i i
3 A machine of the. character described, comprising a bin having an opening in the bottom thereof, a stationary shelf-like member mounted exteriorly of said bin and below said opening adapted toreceive mate rial from said bin through said opening, a,
rotatable shaft, and an arm extending outwardly from said shaft and rotating therewith, said arm sweeping over said shelf-like member to move material over the edge thereof, said arm being adjustable to vary the lateral extension thereof from said shaft.
4. In a machine of the character described, a bin having'an outlet port, feedingmech a nism for delivering measur-ed quantities of material escaping from said port, an agitator within the bin, a shaft rotatable within the bin and cam mechanism operable by said shaft for actuating the, agitator.
5, In a machine of the character described, a bin having an outlet port, a shaft rotatable within and below the bin, a feeder arm on said shaft for delivering measured quanti ties of material escapingthrough said port,
an agitator withinthe bin, and cam mecha nism operable from said shaft for actuating the agitator. l
6. In a machine of the character described, a bin having an outlet port, a shaft rotatable within the bin, means operable by the shaft for feeding material delivered through the outlet port, an agitator plate pivotally mounted within the bin, a rocker arm connected with said plate, and a cam on said shaft in operable relation with said arm.
7. In a machine of the character described, a bin, a shaft rotatable in the bin, an agitator plate pivotally mounted Within the bin, a rocker arm connected with the agitator plate, a cam on said shaft and a fork on said rocker arm engageable by the cam to rock the arm and actuate the agitator plate.
8. In a machine of the character described, a bin having an outlet port, a shaft rotatable in the bin, means on the shaft for feeding material delivered through said port, a vertical agitator plate pivotally mounted Within the bin and having a stud thereon at one side of the pivotal mounting, a rocker arm, a link on the rocker arm having a slot receiving said stud, a cam on the shaft and a fork on the rocker arm embracing the cam for the purpose set forth.
9. In a machine of the character. described, a bin having an outlet port, a stationary ta ble adapted for receiving material from said port, a vertical shaft in said bin extending through the bottom thereof and rotating al- Ways in the same direction, and a pair of said bin and an auxiliary ing member on said arms on said shaft, one immediately above the bottom of said bin and the other movable over said table.
10. In a machine of the character described, a bin having an outlet port,'a table adapted for receiving material from said port, a rotatable shaft in said bin an agitating arm on said shaft rotating therewith in agitator pivoted adjacent the Wall of said bin having a back and forth rocking motion on its pivot above said arm in the bin.
11. In a machine of the character described, a bin having an outlet port, a table adapted for receiving material from said port, a rotatc ble shaft in said bin, an agitatshaft rotating therewith in said bin and an auxiliary agitator pivoted adjacent the wall of said bin actuated by said shaft to pivotally reciprocate Within said bin as said first agitator rotates.
