JOHN D. SHELTON, OF HUNTINGTON, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN PIN'SEPARATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 161,164, dated March 23, 1875; application filed December 12, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN D. SHELION, of Huntington, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Pin-Runs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawing is a representation of a plan view of my pin-run, and Fig. 2 is a side view of the same. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view.
This invention has relation to means for separating pins having imperfectly-formed heads, or no heads at all, from the perfect pins; and the nature of my invention consists in the novel construction of the pin-run trough, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
In the annexed drawings, AA designate two thin boards, the lower edges of which are dressed square with the broad surfaces, as indicated at a at. These boards, which may be of any desired length, are secured to angular arms B B, arranged at suitable distances from each other, thus forming a trough-shaped run, the two sides of which are inclined toward each other at an angle of about forty-five degrees. The lower edges of the boards A A do not touch, but a narrow space is left wide enough to allow pins having imperfect heads, and pins having no heads, to pass freely through. it and fall into a suitable receptacle.
The said space is not, however, wide enough to allow pins having perfectly-formed heads or heads of the required size; hence such pins Will be discharged at the lower end of the trough, which should be properly inclined, into a suitable receptacle.

The separable bracket B B, made in two parts, with an orifice between them for the passage of the pins, and secured to the inclines A A, said brackets being also provided with recesses in their ends for the reception of adjusting-screws, as specified.
