Fig.\2 is a sectional elevation of the ink-well cover. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the elastic suction bulb-which serves to force the ink into the auxiliary-font when the pen is dipped therein. Fig. 4 is a detail view of the upper valve which controls the .flow of ink to the auxiliary font. Fig. 'is a detail view of the valve which controls the `vflow of ink from the main container into the intermediate suction passage beneath the'auXiliary tout. Referring to the drawings in detail, the main body portion 11, of the ink-Well cover, is provided with an enlarged annular top portion 12, having 'a central-aperture 13, and a sliding lid 14 adapted dipping aperture 13. The body portion 11 is adapted to be inserted-in the ink-pot. 15,

In the annular top portion 12, I provide an annular compressible bulb 18, having a 'nipple 19 extending into a duct 20, which extends to a small suction chamber 21 at the baseo'f body 11.

The suction chamber '21 is provided with a suction valve 22, and a capillary tube 23 extends from the body 11, and is adapted to depend into the ink which may be in the main container,'the capillary tube 23, being controlled by suctionl valvev 22 and having its open extremity 24 constant-ly immersed in the ink in the main container. A delivery port 25 is arranged between the suction chamber 21 and auxiliary font 16. To compress the bulb 18' when the pen is to be dipped into they ink in the auxiliary font, I provide a disk 26, having a central dipping aperture 2T, the rim of which is adapted to be engagedby'the pen as shown in Fig. 2. A i'loat valve 28 is provided for the valve port 25, and is adapted to prevent the eva eration ot' the ink normally contained in the, suction 'chamber 21. Valve member 22 has a Weight portion 29, and valve member 28 has a weighted portion 3()I In use, the operation of my improved inkwell coverl is as follows: Assuming the valve and valve 28 to be. seated ony their respective valve seats, and, the suction chambery to contain a supply of ink, and that the font 1G contains a supply of ink which is normally of a depth lsuiiicientto cover the top of valve 28, and that the pen17 is about to be dipped into the ink, then', on forcing the pen downwardly sufficiently to compress the bulb 18, the ink inthe suction chamber is `forced by the compressed air entering the chamber through duct 20, to pass through port 25 and into the'font. The ink in the 4font becomes ofsuiicient depth to submerge the point ofthe pen. On vwithdrawing the pen, the bulb 18 expands to normal size, and the ink in the font and in the 'suction chamber will. assume their `normal level. The ow ofthe ink from the font and into the suction chamber beneath, will force the valve. 28 t`o close valve port 25, and therefore only a portion of the ink is withdrawn into the suction chamber.
