This invention relates to the art of spinning and has particular reference to an im- Jrovement in spinning or thread-twisting frames of the ring type.
One of the outstanding objects of the.
present invention is to provide an improved thread guard consisting of means interposed between adjacent bobbins which effectually functions to pievent, in event of breakage of the thread, the free end of the brol-:en thread of one bobbin from coming into contact with the next adjacent bobbin.
The invention furthermore comprehends a thread guard of the character set forth which includes means for mounting the same upon the frame, whereby retraction thereof from between fected for the purpose of facilitating the ty-y the bobbins may be readily efin view,
reference is had to the following specication and accompanying drawings in which there is exhibited one example or embodiment of the invention which is in no way intended as a limitation uponthe scope of the appended claims as it is to be clearly understood that variations and modifications which properl y fallwithin the scope of said claims may be resorted to when found expedient.

Referring to the drawings by characters of reference, a substantially common form of spinning or thread-twisting frame is illustrated` including end headers A and B connected by the box rail C and provided with a' suitable number of middle frame members or samsons D. The spindles E for supporting the bobbins F are mounted in the usual manner in longitudinally spaced parallel relation upon the box rail C and are driven by the whorls Gr from the driving cylinder H. The builder rail I formed with apertures to accommodate the bobbins and having therings J and travelers K, is raised and lowered in the usual manner'by the lifter rods L, through the medium of the cam M and builder mechanism. The guard means constituting the present Vinvention and designed as an attachment, for the spin ning frame, consists of a plurality of guard blades 10 mounted in such a manner as to be disposed between the adjacent bobbins F, whereby in event of breakage of one of the threads leading from the spools N to the bobbins, the loose end of thebrolren thread 1 on the bobbin will be prevented from conthe builder rail.

In order, therefore, to compensate tor the decrease in width ot' the'biades 10a, stationary front blade sections lOlare provided by supporting standards 22 carried by the box rail and extending upwardly through apertures-23 in Fromthe foregoing it will thus be seen that a thread guard'has been devised as an attachment 'for a spinningor thread-twisting frame, which consists olf a `plurality ot guard'blades disposed between adjacent bobbins and spindles whereby in eventotbrealage of 'the thread leading to the bobbins from the spindles, a means is aiiorded tor VpreventingY thev `tree end ot' the broken Vthread on one b'obbin from flying loose and either picking up oil and splashing the thread ot' an adjacent bobbin or becoming entangled therewith. It is furthermore obvious that in order' to facilitate the tying of `broken threadsor the removal and application ot the bobbins to the spindles, said guard blades aremounted for rearward vmovement. to allow for their retractiont'rom their active positions between the spindles? such y i movement being accomplished by manipulation oit' the hand wheels *i8* arranged at either end ofthe frame.'
As illustrated, by way ol example, .the blades 10am' connected to the guard bar-ll by `inserting-therearends ot the blades` in the notches or recesses 24 formed in the front face of the bari-l, and by locking thesame in place4 through the `inefdiumi ofi-a, jamb block 25, which is retained and `niged in-a clamping direction by y virtue of ai conicalmovable sections, and means headed screw 26. The guard bar l1 is also preferably adjustably secured to the hangers l2 bya screw 27, which passes through a horizontal slot'28 in each end of the bar 11. rlhis permits of a shitting olf'v the guard bar towdispose the blades Centrally oteach slot 2l`so as to prevent'contactor trictional engagement of the; blades with the edges of the material defining the slots.

A thread guard attachment for spinning frames, including a plurality of guard blades interposed between adjacent bobhins, certain of said guard blades including .stationary sections carried by the box rail and movable sections, and means for supporting the said movable. sections together with the remaining blades for rearward sliding movement to a retracted position from between the bobbins, said .supporting means consisting of a transverse bar, detachable means of connection between the movable sections of said certain blades and the remaining blades, rack sections, an adjustable connection between the rack sections and the supporting bar for centering the blades between the bobbins, guide elements in which the rack sections are mounted for sliding movement,

A thread vguard attachment for spin-1 ning frames, including a plurality ot guard bla 'es interposed between adjacent bobbins, certain of said guard blades including stationary sections carried by the boX rail and movable sections, and means for supporting the said movable sections together with the remaining blades 'for rearward sliding movement to a retracted position from between the bobbins, .said supporting means consisting of a transverse bar, detachable means of connection between the movable sections of said certain blades and the remaining blades, rack sections, an adjustable connection between the rack sections and the ,supporting bar for centering the blades between the bobbins, guide elements in which the rack sections are mounted for sliding movement, Jinions operatively engaging the racks, and a transverse shaft to which the pinions are secured, the adjustable means of connection between the supporting bar and the rack .sections consisting of longitudinally slotted portions in the supporting bar, and clamping screws extending through said slotted portions andanchored in the rack sections.
