The lower sprocket wheel 32 is actuated by the lever 28 through the following means: At its inner end said lever is secured to the tubular shaft 40 and it carries a headed pin 13 which projects through a slot 4% in a sliding pawl which is actuated inwardly by a soring L6 mounted on a pin on an arm 4-7 from the lever 28 and said spring tends to force the pawl inwardly and cause it to engage a ratchet wheel which is secured to the inside of the sprocket wheel 32 and thus when the lever 28 is depressed, it will actuate said sprocket wheel and move it in the direction of the arrow A and there by move the se-ies of holding members 30 one step, or a distance equal to the distance between the coin receiving spaces of adjoining holding members 80.
The handle 28 after depression and operation as explained, is elevated or returned by a spring 51 which'is at one end secured to an car 02 connected with the handle and at the other end is fastened to a bracket 53 entendii'ig inward from the side of the casing 20.
As the handle returns ormoves upward, the inclined inner end of the pawl e 5 rides back over the teeth of the ratchet wheel 50 and during such return movement of s id lever it causes the movement of a cam wheel 55 in a direction opposite to the former movement of the ratchet wheel 50. To do this said cam wheel is loosely mounted on the spindle 34 and has a ratchet 56 engaging the ratchet at the end of the tubular shaft d0. Thus the return movement of the lever causes the return movement of the tubular shaft 40 and that, through the ratchet 56, moves the cam wheel 55, and such movement of the cam wheel elevates a bar 60 which carries a roller 61 on its lower end that rides on the cam wheel 55. The bar is held and guided by guide 62 and at its upper end it is pivoted by a pin 63 to the short arm of a bell crank lever 64 which is fulcrumed on the bracket Therefore, the upward movement of the bar 60 will cause the movement of the upper end of the lever 64: to the left. The upper end of said lever 64 has a slot 65 through which pins 66 from a push rod 67 project. Said push rod is mounted in and guided by a block 68 secured to the casing and the function and purpose of this push rod will be here after explained.

The machinery heretofore described is. however, locked from action until a coin of the proper value has been introduced through the coin slot 25 and the locking is effected by the following means: in each holding member 30 there is a horizontal slot 71 in the outer end thereof and in position to re ceive the coin as it enters the coin slot in the casing. Into the side of said slot 71 an arm 72 projectshorizontally from a locking lever 73 which extends downward therefrom and is fulcruined on a pin 74 fastened in the casing. There is a laterally projecting pin 7e adapted to enter a hole Y5 in the arm from the lever 28. Therefore, when said pin 7 is projecting into said hole 75, said hand lever 28 cannot be operated. However. when a coin is inserted through the slot 25 and into the slot 71 of the holding member 30, it engages the arm 72 of lever 73 and actuates said lever so as to disen e the in 7% from the hand lever and thusperinit the latters operation. A. spring coiled around the fulcrum '74, projects unward and engages said lever and returns t lever to its normal and locking position and holds it in that position. The arm 4'? on the hand lever 28, has a portion, 80, formed into a cam surface, (see Fig. 10) which as said lever is depressed, continues 'to'engag-e the pin 74 and hold the lever 73 in its actuated position and thus keep the arm 72 at the upper end of said lever disengaged from the chain or series of holding members 30 until after the hand lever 28 has returned to its upper and normal position.

Therefore, the receipt stamp 100 and the coin are not in a slot at the same time.v The stamp is discharged beforeanother'coin is inserted 0 rather in one operation of the machine, the coin is inserted in one holding member and the stamp is discharged from the next holding member and the last holding member remains in registry with the coin receiving slot 25 until the next operation of the machine and, therefore, the slot in the holding member is free to receive the coin. The arrangement of the holding member for the pass books, or the series at the. right hand side of the device, as shown in Fig. 1, is somewhat different from the arrangement of the mechanism for discharging receipt stamps because in case of the pass books the holding member is provided with an entra slot 101 which is wide enough to receive his arrangement is shown in Fig. 9, where the pass book slot is below the coin slot and in this form the arm or projection 72 of the locking lever '1' 3 enters the coin slot as hereinbefore described, while the push rod 67 enters the pas book slot and discharges the pass book,
Theinvention is not limited to tnis mode of supplying pass books however.
The outer faces of the compartments or holding members 00 always remain adjacent or ClOzZ'G to the sides and bottom of the casing so that a coin inserted in the slot 71 will remain in the same slot during the subsequent operation of the machine and when the machine is taken to the savings bank and opened, every coin will be in the holding member in which it was originally inserted. By numbering the holding members according to the deposit books or stamp receipts in them to be delivered, the account in connection with which a false coin has been deposited can thus be identified and the bank or savings company protect itself and be able to charge up the false coin to the proper account, whenever the deposit book is presented to the bank by the holder thereof.
What 1 claim is:
1. A machine for depositing and crediting savings deposits including a vertically. disposed casing having a coin slot therein, a sprocket wheel mounted within each end of the casing, an endless chain mounted on said sprocket wheels, and having secured thereto a series of holding 1116l'i'il381S with slots opening outward'and adapted to register with the coin slot in the casing and sait holding members being movable at all times adjacent to the casing so that each coin introduced will remain in the slot originally receiving it, means for actuating said series 01'' holds 5, and means for locking the same which is adapted to be released by the insertion of the coin.

A machine for depositing and crediting savings deposits including a vertically disposed casing having a horizontal coin slot therein, a sprocket wheel mounted within each end Of the casing, an endless chain mounted on said sprocket wheels and having secured thereto series of holding members with horizontal slots opening outward and adapted to register with the coin slot in the casing and said holding members being movable at all times adjacen to th casing so that each coin introduced rc .in in the slot ori inally receiving it, a hand lever adapted to actuate'said sprocket wheels and projectingoutward beyond said casing, and means normally locking the 'ectuating lever and chain, said means being releasable upon the insertion of a coin.

A machine for depositing and crediting savings deposits including a vertically disposed casing having a horizontal coin slot therein, a sprocket wheel mounted within each end of the casing, an endless chain mounted on said sprocket wheels and having secured thereto a series or" holding members with horizontal slot-s opening outward and adapted to register with the coin slot in the casing and said holding members being movable at all times adjacent to the casing so that each coin introducedwill remain in the slot originally receiving it, a hand lever adapted to actuate said'sprocket wheels and projecting outward beyond said casing, meansfor locking the actuating lever, saidineans being releasable upon the insertion of a coin, and a spring for returning said locking means to a locking position. A machine for depositing and crediting savings deposits including a vertically disposed casing having a horizontal coin slot therein,- a sprocket wheel mounted within each end 01 the casing, an endless chain mounted on said sprocket wheels and having secured thereto a series of holding members with horizontal slots oaening outward and adapted to register with the coin slot in the casing and said holding members being movable at all times adjacent to the casing so .each end of the casin that each coin introduced will remain in tl e slotoriginally receiving it, a lever for actuating one of said sprocket wheels projecting outward beyond the casing, an arm extending from said lever Within the casing and which is formed so as to have a cam surface, a locking lever fulcrumed to the casing and provided with a projection on one end to enter a slot in the holding member which is in re istry with a coin slot in the casing so that it will be forced out of said slot by the insertion of a coin, and a pin on the other end said locking member for entering a hole in the arm of said actuating member and arranged so that when the locking lever is moved to an unlocking position the movement of the actuating lever will cause said cam surface to move said locking member entirely out of engagement with said holding members so that they may be moved by the actuating member.

A machine for depositing and crediting savings deposits including a vertically dis posed casing having a horizontal coin slot therein, a sprocket wheel mounted within each end o1 the casing, an endless chain mounted on said sprocket wheels and having secured thereto a series of holding members with horizontal slots opening outward and adapted to register with the coin slot in the casing and said holding members being movable at all times adjacent to the casing so that each coin introduced will remain in the slot originally receiving it, a lever projecting beyond the casing for actuating one of said sprocket wheels when the lever is depressed, means for locking the actuating lever, said means being releasable upon the insertion of a coin, a plunger for discharging the contents of the holding member, means operable on the return movement oi said actuating lever for actuating said discharging means, and a spring "for returning said actuating means.

A machine for depositing coins includ ing a casing having coin inlet slot th in, movable coin holding means within six casing having a. numbered series of coin eiving slots therein adapted to successi register with the coin inlet slot of the casing and keep the coins separate'ttrom each other means for locking the coin holding mean from movement and adapted to be released by the introduction of a coin into one oi said coin receiving slots, and means operable after the release of said coin locking means for moving the coin holding means to bring another coin receiving slot therein into istry with the coin inlet slot of the casing.

A machine for depositing and crediting savings deposits including a casing having a coin slot therein, movable coin holding means within said casing having a numbered series of slots therein adapted to alternately hold a receipt and receive a coin, means to advance said coin holding means, means for locking said holding means from movement and adapted to be released by the introduction of a coin, and means operable r the release of said locking means for t ischar ing a receipt from the next succeef ing member.

A machine for receiving savings deposits including a casing having a coin slot therein, a series of holding members movable within said casing successively into registry witi said coin slot, each said member having a chamber for alternately holding a receipt and tor receiving a coin, means for locking said holding members against move ment and arranged so as to be released by the introduction of the coin into a. holding member, and means operable after the insertion of a coin and the release of said locking means for first moving tl e holders to position the chamber of the holder receiving the coin out of registry with said coin slot and position the chamber or the succeeding holder in registry therewith and then discharging a receipt from the chamber of said last mentioned holder through said slot.

In a machine for receiving savings deposits, the combination of a casing having a coin slot formed in one wall thereof, a series of members movable within said casing and arranged successively to register with said coin slot, each said holder carrying an iden i tilication mark and formed with a chamber adapted to receive a check, stamp or ticket bearing an identification mark, means for locking saidseries of members against move ment, said locking means being arranged to Y be released upon the introduction of a coin through said slot into the chamber of a holding member in registry therewith, and means operable after the release of said locking means for first moving the holders to position the chamber of the holder receiving the coin out of registry with said coin slot and to position the chamber of the succeeding holder in registryvtherewith and for then discharging a check, stamp or ticket from the chamber of said last mentioned holder through said slot.
