This invention relates to improvements in doors, gates and the like and has for vits object the provision of means for automatically opening and closing a door or gate, the invention being especially designed for use inV connection with the doors of garages or other doors or gates through which vehicles. are adapted to pass. v
The primary object of the present invention is the provision of means whereby a door or gate will be automatically opened by the weight of a vehicle approaching the same so as to permit the vehicle to pass through, together with means whereby the door or gate will be automatically closed after the passage of the vehicle, that it will not be necessary for the door or gate to 'be manually opened or closed.
Another object of the invention is the pro.- vision of novel operating means of this character which will securely hold the door in closed position when the operating means is not in use and will hold the doors against accidental closing during the passage of a vehicle therethrough. Y
lVith the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim.

The adjacent ends of the platforms are normally held in elevated position by means of springs 28 which have one of their ends connected to the lugs 21 'and their opposite ends connected to brackets 29v through the medium of chains 30, so that the tension forming a pivot `of the springs may be regulated through the adjustable connection of the chains and brackets 29. f
As previously stated, the. standards 12 are received within the openingsl 19 provided between the rollers 1S and these standards are provided with spirals 31. Normally when the adjacent ends of the platforms 26 and 27 are elevated as shown in the drawings, the rollers engage the at portions of the standards 12 so that the latter are held against rotation, but downward pressure upon the. platforms will cause the rollers to engage the spiral portions 31 of the standards and rotate the latter so as to open the doors 11. This downward movement is eected by the weight of a vehicle upon either the platform 26 or the platform 27, the doors being opened to permitof the passage of the vehicle. After the vehicle haspassed from the platforms Mounted upon these trunnions areV llO rollers Will ride past the spiral portions 3l of the standards and engage the flat portions immediately below so that the doo-rs will be held open during the depressed period of the platform.
In order to permit the opposite ends of the platforms to move When the said platforms are depressed or elevated, the outer end of the platform 26 is mounted for sliding movement as shown at 32, While the outer end of the platform 27 has secured thereto arms or brackets 33 which are provided with eyes 34:. A rock shaft 35 passes through the eyes 34 and the opposite ends of this shaft are provided With crank arms 36 which are mounted in bearings 37, so that pivotal and sliding' movement is provided for the lower end of the platform 27.
Thilo the invention is shown and described as applied to a pair of doors, it is obvious that it is equally Well adapted for use with a single door, or with a gate or gates.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is hereby each end of the beam and arranged to receive the adjacent spiral therebetween, and actuate the latter to rotate said standards-1, when the beam is moved vertically, resilient means from which said beam is suspended, and normally holding the beam elevated, oppositely inclined platforms arranged at the opposite sides of the beam and havingl their adjacent ends pivotally connected therewith, means supporting the outer end of one beam for sliding movement, a shaft `iournaled beneath the outer end of the other platform, crank portions formed on the outer ends of said shaft, and bearings receiving said crank portion to allow the outer end of the last mentioned platform to more horizontally when said platform is dcpressed.
