TRU SS CONSTRUCTION.
Application filed February 5, 1925. Serial No. 7,116.
My invention relates to trusses, particularly trusses of the so-called hood type. Trusses of the type mentioned are provided with a front pad-supporting member and a lateral springs arranged to encircle the thighs of the wearer below the crest of the ilium. These springs are open at the back and carry retaining pads which bear upon the back of the wearer.
' that. in the fitting of trusses of this type the ordinary construction does not lend itself to proper adjustment, and therefore the rear pads, as well as the rear portions of the spring, cannot be suitably located on the per son of the wearer, sons to obviate chafing and ultimate injury an extreme discomfort, to such extent in many cases that the patient is required periodically to discard the truss for a time in order to permit the parts to heal. It is to overcome this objection that l r the present invention is principally directed.
Other objectsof the invention will appear from the following detailed description thereof: 7 a
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective ofa truss constructed in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2 is a lateral view of the novel adjustable feature of the truss. V The numeral 1 indicates the front supporting member of a hood type truss, which is adapted to support one or two remedial pads 2, which may be, and usually are, adjustable in slots in the member 11. Secured to the ends of themeinbers l are lateral springs 3, which are formed to fit around the hips of the wearer below the crest of the-ilium. Pivotally secured to the ends of the springs 8 are extension springs 4, the pivotal securing means comprising set screws 5 or any other suitable adjusting and securing means. The back pads 6 are ad'- justably secu'redon the free ends of the springs by means of sleeves or clips 7; l The springs 3 and extensions 4 are encased.
in a leather sheathing 8 in the usual manner, 7 said sheathings' being provided with openings 9 wherebyaccess is given to the adjust; ing screws'5.
It has been found The use and value of a truss constructed in accordance with the above invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art to which the same appertains. When the truss is placed upon the wearer, the front member '1 and lateral springs 3 are necessarily fixed in their relation to the person of'the wearen In order that the back pads 6, as well as the extension springs 4, may be suitably poe sitioned with respect to the wearer so that said parts will be disposed on the person, contributing most to hiscomfort; and welfare, the extension springs 4; are rotated to the desired position about their pivotal axes, and secured in such adjustm'entby means of tightening the screws 5.
It will be seen that by this construct-ion,
therefore, it is possible to accommodate the truss to the individual features of the wearer so, as to obviate the possibility of chafing and discomfort. Should they, however, 1n the course of t me, produce sorenessor dlSO01I1- fort, it s possible'toeffect, inthe-same manner, further adjustmentsoas to relieve the irritated parts until the same can regain rary discarding of the truss. i
' Having thus fully; described my invention, what I claim as new andfdesire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a truss,-in combination with a front normality without necessitating the tempopad supporting member, lateral springs s'ecured to said member, and backextension springs pivotally secured to theends' of said lateral springs and adaptedfor adjustments 1n a plane transverse to the plane of said lateral spr ngs.
2. In a truss in combination withjfa front pad supporting member, lateral springs secured to said member, back" extension' springs'pivotally secured to the ends of said lateral springs and adapted for adjustments in'a'plane transverse to the plane of said lateralsprings, and means whereby the parts may be secured when suitably'adjusted.
3. In a truss, in combinatlon with a front pad supporting member, lateral springs secure'dto said member, backextension springs pivotally secured to the ends of said lateral extension springs.
41:. In a truss, in combination With a front pad supporting member, lateral sprlngs secured t0 sald member, back extension springs pivotally secured to the ends of said lateral springs and adapted for adjustments in a .plane transverse to the plane of said lateral 10 springs, means whereby the parts may be secured when suitably adjusted, and back pads carried by said extension springs.
